I'm in charge of bringing soda pop and Marie Callender's pies. There should be about 30 people there. I'm gonna look for my pretty cousin! LOL

Then I want to sneak down to Indio for the powwow.

It'll be everything you could think of on the table, and I'm cooking...I always feed the folks that have to work on Thanksgiving day, and my entire family gets together at my house ...I love to cook and I have friends and family that love to eat, and I love to entertain, so this is a great time of year for me.....

Some people get all hot and bothered about Thanksgiving, especially about how we helped the pilgrims and the pilgrims screwed us over and all of that BS. So we just focus on family and giving thanks... that's all I was saying

Ya won't find any pilgrim imagery at my place for Thanksgiving. But even growing up, that wasn't how we celebrated. Thanksgiving is for getting together with friends/loved ones, giving thanks for whatever you have to be thankful for, and eating ridiculous amounts of food!!! Pilgrims don't got nothin' to do with it no more.

It's traditional Thanksgiving fare at my house, though.

Turkey
Stuffing (Pepperidge Farm)
Mashed potatoes(like Grandma Peppy used to make)
Sweet potatoes(candied, with bitters)
Green Beans (w/bacon or ham hocks)
Corn on the cob
Tarragon carrots
Cranberry sauce (canned or homemade, depending on how much time I have)
Rolls
Green Salad
Walnut or Pecan pie
Rhubarb pie
Pumpkin pie (if someone else brings it)
Milk, Coffee, Iced Tea, Hot Tea...
Red wine. (I just don't like white wine that much)

After dinner cocktails and/or strong blue cheese w/port wine.

I believe in gluttony!!!

All the holidays in our house involve massive quantities of food and family!! Most people tend to forget what most holidays are about, so we focus on getting together with family and celebrate life.

Once I was visiting out of state for Thanksgiving and someone asked if I celebrated it or not. I was like, Yeah - why not?? Didn't dawn on me until later they probably asked cuz of the Pilgrim thing.

Noone I know makes a big deal of it, and enjoys the company of family and friends sharing lots of food.

Our usual fare is:

Turkey - gonna try to bone it and stuff it again so it can just be sliced up.
Homemade turkey gravy
Spiral sliced ham - so much easier
Baked whole salmon
Sweet potato casserole
spinach-artichoke dip
chips/dips/veggie tray with lots of olives and pickles
creamed corn
salad
jello salad with fruit
Homemade punkin pie (by me, cuz I'm picky) I should add I make about 8 punkin pies so the family members who love these can take a whole pie home
Homemade banana cream pie
Homemade cherry pie
cranberry/orange relish
Pillsbury Crescent Rolls....nothing else will do.

Who all has a particular Thanksgiving recipe that they'd better make exactly the same every year or the family will revolt?

We never had anything like that in our family. But a number of years ago I was at a friend's house for Thanksgiving. Apparently, she added some garlic to the stuffing recipe and hadn't done that before. (It was so little, I couldn't even taste the garlic.)

Her sister was sitting there kinda picking at the stuffing. So, my friend says something like: How does everyone like the stuffing? I added a little bit of garlic this year.

Her sister's response, (and this is a direct quote): "I can barely choke it down!"

All I can say is, in my family if anyone said anything like that there would've immediately been a screaming, profanity-filled fight!

The sweet potato casserole has to be JUST sweet potatoes, butter, eggs and sweet. No fancy stuff like orange juice, marshmallows, or pineapple. Those were BIG flops!!

And the punkin pie has to be just SO...cuz yeah...we're ALL picky! LOL

AF: Please do stop by!! I'll send a sugar free punkin pie home with ya! Along with lots of other leftovers!!

yeah, i had my turn to make the stuffing. i had my way of making it for several years…instant mix with added golden raisens i soaked first in the boiling water along with dried cranberries. then pinenuts added last.

yeah i know that would be a flop with all of you..but my ex and i liked it. well , when i was cooking it for my siblings, they all sorta turned up their noses cos it wasnt made “moms traditional way”. but when it came down to it, i didnt have any to come back home with me!
