Difficulties of being NDN in Service

Before I start-
US Army 2002-2007
I was a cook. Whoo.

That being said, the misconceptions about being Native ran rampant while I was in. I'd like to know the fun things they've overheard/dealt with whilst in (incomplete list, obviously. Feel free to insert your own)-

-The ever so popular "Hey, you're Native, right? Do you have 'Native American Church' on your dog tags?"

-Why are you in the (insert branch here)? Don't you get money from the government for being Native?

-*EO Guy* Hey, we're doing cultural sensitivity training for the company next week. Would you mind doing a block of instruction about your culture?
*Me* Just mine? Or should I cover every other tribe? [dripping sarcasm]
*EO Guy* Oh, can you do the other tribes, too? That would be great!!!
*Me* {facepalm}

-Can you get peeeeyyyyooooottteeeeee??????

-*NCO trying to be one of the 'cool guys'* Have you done any beadwork? Like, American Indian beadwork?
*Me* Yeah, some. I still have a lot to learn, though.
*NCO CoolGuy™* Oh, wowwwwww... well, I have some leather saddlebags for my motorcycle. If I pay you like fifty bucks, do you think you can bead them?

-*Butterbar doing more college* Yo, Specialist. You have a moment?
*Me* What's going on, sir?
*LT CollegeBoy™* I'm doing a class on Native American studies. What can you tell me about the Navajo?
*Me* Not much. Great silver workers. Had a huge crush on one a while back. I don't know, sir. You'll have to ask a Dine about it.
*LT CollegeBoy™* Who is Dine? Is she one of your friends?
*Me* {facepalm}

I was too busy being a grunt deploying or training up for a deployment to get asked questions myself.

They sound like standard clueless American non-native questions asked across the county.

I'm glad you were able to set them straight!
