From My personal experience..... I would suggest Everyone to get their degree FIRST and consider Joining the military as a very LAST RESORT. These Videos look "GOOD," but they do not show you what really goes on..... I have been in for 6 years now, made two tours to Bagram Afghanistan, and it has not been as good as people claim, and their leadership is Crap. While Subordinates Work their butts off, the higher ups sit back and do nothing and still receive the recognition. The few higher ups that have worked along side the subordinates never did receive ANY recognition except from us little guys. On top of all that, civilians still treat military members like we don't belong here or we are just a piece of ****. Yes, I get little kids come and shake my hand, but their parents never make an effort. Now that I have transferred to the reserve side, I have applied for many civilian jobs that I am WELL and some times over qualified for, and they have always chosen the other. I am not the only one, just look at my fellow brother and sister veterans... we are among the high percentage in unemployment. Once again, Make the military your last resort. Look at the link below and this one example that should stay in the back of your mind.

Also a little funny as well, never really considered that my six tours in Kabul and Khandahar were supposed to be "as good as people claim"... silly me again, thought we were there to fight a war...perhaps you need to check with your travel agent if you want a trip that's "good"...again, didn't realize that deployments were supposed to be the equivalent of a Carnival Cruise.

If you'd like to exchange war stories about how rough it was, then I'll set the lamps and sandbags up. But here is something my grandfather said to me at my graduation and commissioning. You might want to think about what he had to say, he was a POW in Burma during WWII. His ship was sunk on Dec 10, 1941 as they steamed to rescue the troops in Hong Kong. It took 90 minutes for the ship to go down and the enemy never once stopped strafing the sailors in the water. He spent four years keeping his men alive and escaping once a month from the camp to give INT to the allies - he returned to the camp each time and spent 30 days in the hole. His one day a month of freedom was spent knowing when he returned he'd be back in the box again. My grandmother didn't know if he was alive or dead for almost 5 years. He was given $1.00 a day for his internment when he was liberated. He went on to serve his country for another 30 years after that. Of all the things he could have said to me that day of my graduation, he chose this: Quote:
As far as your slam on militaries, it just goes to show just how little you really understand about joint training as well it goes to show how immature your world view is. I have personnel as we speak on their way to the states to set up training exercises. I just had American forces up here for three months for training. It is my job to know exactly what our respective forces have to deal with. I live, breathe and sleep about joint training. It's my job to be responsive to the training audiences - can't do that if one has no idea. It sounds like you are angry at your service time, I suggest that you might want to get some counselling. Spewing venomous prattling on a website as you have done is not the way to resolve whatever issues you may have brought home with you.

OVERLOOKING??? Really??? I first commented from my personal experience and gave my reasons why our younger generation should pursue college instead of joining military.... You are the one who started this argument with your lack of knowledge and experience of U.S. Military. For one Your Canadian, TWO, your obviously an officer, and so you clearly wouldn't understand nothing of American Enlisted Military forces except for the little bit of JOINT Training you think we actually do.... and that is not even the tip of the Iceberg..... On top of that, NOT ONCE HAVE YOU MENTIONED WHY OR WHY NOT OUR YOUNGER GENERATION SHOULD COMPARE COLLEGE VS. JOINING THE MILITARY WHICH WAS WHAT I POSTED IN MY FIRST POST AND STARTED THIS REPLY!!!
Let me say it again..... I STRONGLY URGE THOSE WHO HAVE NOT JOINED THE MILITARY BEFORE, GO PURSUE YOUR COLLEGE DEGREE AND MAKE THE MILITARY A LAST RESORT OPTION. American Military should I say.... I never said I was not thankful for being alive and breathing with my wife and 3 children. You only assumed... think before you speak. Oh and by the way, My counselor's say that writing and typing is a good way to let stress go.... Shows how much you know. I can say more, but my point was that our younger generation should make American Military a last resort option. I will not speak like I know what it is like to be in canadian military, but I do know how your living conditions are in Afghanistan compared American military. Also, I do know how the joint training is and know that the training we do with joint forces is nothing compared to what we do within our own training. |
