Oh gawd....

The only thing worthwhile on this whole freakin' topic is Gina Carano. The rest of the untoned, oiled up blonde azz beeeeyatches... puhleez.
Just what I expected.

As a Native woman... Ojibwe to be exact, and a woman who trains Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu on nearly a daily basis, I expect better talk than this. LOL

And the Rjiker and Martin fight, please. That crap is never gonna happen again. I had ring side seats and it never happened after Lucia's AT snapped. I was betting on Lucia too...

Evander Holyfield fights this weekend..I don't think he will unify the heavyweight belts like he sez he will do..he is getting old.

Yesh NSB, I agree. But since I followed boxing in the glory years (Ali, Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Shavers, Young, Chuvalo, Bonavena, etc..) I can't get excited about the modern era of boxing.

Boxing has fallen off the wayside the past few years...it was better back in the 80's.

Yeah, boxing is falling off right now. I just hate that boxing went from being broadcast on Wide World of Sports to cable (USA and ESPN) to premium channels (HBO and Showtime) to Pay Per View for even pedestrian fights. Promoters not letting their fighters box another promoter's fighters is another long lingering problem, as well as fight fixing. It also doesn't help that fighter's from Europe have caught up to Americans and are taking major titles over their, especially in the heavyweight division.

Like him or hate him, De La Hoya did keep boxing afloat in the late 90's to early 2000's. The man fought the who's who of his era (Rafael Ruelas, Genaro Hernandez, Pernell Whitaker, Ike Quartey, Felix Trinidad, Shane Mosely, Fernando Vargas, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Paquiao). At least six of those guys will go into the International Boxing Hall of Fame at Canastota. De La Hoya also did something that not many fighters in this day and age do; make their promoters get them marqee fights against another promoter's top fighters.

SEATTLE TIMES

Holyfield challenges Valuev: Evander Holyfield insists he has at least one more great fight left in him. If he summons it today in Zurich, Switzerland, he will become the oldest man to regain a world heavyweight title.

Standing between the 46-year-old American and a record fifth title is the tallest and heaviest boxer to hold a major belt, WBA champion Nikolai Valuev of Russia.

Holyfield weighed in Friday at 214 pounds, while the 7-foot Valuev weighed 311. Valuev is 35.

Frank Maloney, the British promoter of ex-champion Lennox Lewis, described the bout as a "freak show."

"It's a sad state of affairs that Holyfield is fighting for a world title," Maloney said in Britain's Daily Telegraph. "Holyfield was one of the great heavyweights and he is now reduced to fighting and losing to ordinary fighters."

Well, Valuev won....barely. Just for the record, I have seen Valuev fight, and he SUCKS!!!!!! That is the only reason Holyfield almost pulled it off. As soon as Valuev fights a REAL champion like a Klitchko, he will get destroyed, knocked out in under 5 rounds. He is truly the Primo Carnera of this day and age, a very limited fighter who has benefited from great promotion, a cushy ledger of opponents, and freakish size.

I know that I could be crucified for saying this, but I think that Evander is the most overrated heavyweight ever. What gets me is that he fought in the same era as Riddick Bowe, Lennox Lewis, and Michael Moorer, and those guys who all beat him are consistently held on lower regard by the excuse that they fought in a weak era of heavies....well didn't Holyfield fight in the same era.

Lennox Lewis was pretty good...I remember that fight he lost to Rahman in Africa though...that was funny. He didn't take that fight serious, and got knocked out....he got the him back in the rematch though.

Mosley beat Margarito last weekend and didn't even know about it.

Now, Manny Pacquiao will take on Ricky Hatton May 2nd.

It looks like Margarito will now fight only in Mexico...and he has a legal team that will try to get the suspension lifted. But he is done I believe...until the year is up.

Manny Pacquiao destroyed Ricky Hatton on May 2nd...Hatton didn't have anything going for him in this fight other than getting paid. Got dropped twice in the 1st round and knocked out in the 2nd round. Pound for pound, Manny is now the best fighter in the world, and the ONLY person to win in SIX different weight classes.

Mayweather Jr. says he’s eager to fight
By TIM DAHLBERG, AP Boxing Writer
May 2, 5:38 pm EDT

More Boxing Videos LAS VEGAS (AP)—Floyd Mayweather Jr. insists it’s not all about the money.

Not totally, anyway.

“I guess I just missed boxing,” Mayweather said Saturday. “Somebody’s got to keep the sport up and running. Why not me?”

That was the question Mayweather asked himself as he took a break from the sport that has consumed his life from the time he learned to walk. He wasn’t gone long, but his 11-month retirement was enough to make him realize that he wanted to fight—and fight a lot more.

“I’m still the biggest draw in boxing,” Mayweather said. “Everybody wants to fight me because they know I’m the cash cow.”

Mayweather will return to the ring July 18 in a fight against lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, who will move up two weight classes to get his share of the riches a Mayweather fight can produce. It will be his first fight since he stopped Ricky Hatton in the 10th round of their December 2007 bout.

“I left on top, and I came back on top,” Mayweather said. “I’m here to fight and reclaim what’s mine.”

Indeed, when Mayweather announced his retirement last June he was generally regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, an honor now mainly given Manny Pacquiao. Mayweather’s decision to retire instead of fighting a rematch against Oscar De La Hoya led to Pacquiao getting the shot that he capitalized on.

Mayweather announced his comeback plans in a theater at the MGM Grand hotel, just hours before Pacquiao and Ricky Hatton met in a 140-pound fight in the hotel’s arena.

Mayweather, should he beat Marquez, could get the winner of Saturday’s fight in the fall, but he wasn’t planning to stick around and watch it.

“I’m taking my daughter bowling tonight,” he said.

Mayweather, who is unbeaten in 39 fights, brushed off questions about the state of his finances, saying he made $8 million last year without having a fight and that the rumors he was in financial difficulty were just that. But the lure of many more millions was in the back of his mind as he began sparring once again in recent weeks, the itch to fight returning.

Mayweather was always well known in boxing, but it was the HBO reality series “24/7” featuring his dysfunctional family before his fight with De La Hoya that really cemented his fame. He took advantage of it to appear as a contestant on “Dancing With The Stars,” made an appearance as a wrestler in Wrestlemania and currently appears in an AT&T television commercial.

“I bring the most controversy to the sport,” the 32-year-old said. “The others are too nice. This is a brutal sport.”

Mayweather and his advisers were coy about the contract weight for the Marquez fight, saying it would be a welterweight bout. But De La Hoya, who will be promoting the fight, said it calls for a 143-pound limit instead of the 147-pound welterweight limit.

That was a concession to Marquez, who just last year weighed 129 pounds for a fight against Pacquiao and has only fought twice as a lightweight. Though moving up in weight, Marquez is still considered a dangerous opponent, and many thought he won both his fights against Pacquiao.

Its about money...

Cotto, Pacquiao to meet Nov. 14

A deal has been completed for boxing's biggest fight of the fall: a showdown between pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and welterweight titleholder Miguel Cotto.

Cotto, 28, of Puerto Rico, is coming off a bloody split decision victory in a title defense against Joshua Clottey on June 13 at New York's Madison Square Garden.

Given their penchant for all-action brawls, Arum said he had high expectations that Cotto and Pacquiao would produce another memorable fight.

A deal has been completed for boxing's biggest fight of the fall: a showdown between pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and welterweight titleholder Miguel Cotto.

Pacquiao and Cotto, two of boxing's most popular and crowd-pleasing fighters, will meet at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Nov. 14 (HBO PPV), Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told ESPN.com on Monday.

"It's done," said Arum, who was back at work in his Las Vegas office after a vacation in London and Italy and attending a wedding in Israel. "While I was away I reached a verbal agreement with each side. Pacquiao committed to the fight this weekend and Cotto the week before while I was in Israel. I was on the phone all the time trying to get this done."

Arum said his attorney, Michael Heitner, was preparing the documents for signatures.

"But everything is agreed or I wouldn't say what I am saying," Arum said. "The weight, the percentages, the guarantees -- it's all agreed to."

Although the percentage split was not disclosed, Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KOs) will receive more than 50 percent of the money. That was never a serious sticking point, however. The key holdup had been the contract weight.

Cotto (34-1, 27 KOs), a titleholder at 147 pounds, had agreed to drop below the welterweight limit for the fight. Pacquiao, the 140-pound junior welterweight champion, wanted him to come all the way down to 143 pounds. Cotto refused. Ultimately, they agreed on a 145-pound maximum weight.

Pacquiao, 30, the national hero of the Philippines, scored a sensational knockout of Ricky Hatton to win the junior welterweight title on May 2 at the MGM Grand. The victory gave Pacquiao a world championship in a record-tying sixth weight division.

"I'm really excited because it's a real fight. These are two real warriors," Arum said. "Whichever way this fight goes, I think it's going to be a classic because of the way these guys fight. There will be a lot of engagement. They're great fighters. Cotto and Pacquiao are gutty guys. If you want blood and action and excitement, this is the fight."

Arum said tickets would go on sale in late August followed by a three-city press tour.

"I want to get it done the week after Labor Day so I don't interfere with the Floyd Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez fight," he said. "I don't want [Golden Boy Promotions] saying I jumped them."

Arum said the tentative tour schedule would be Sept. 9 in Los Angeles, Sept. 10 in New York and Sept. 12 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
