Question on etiquette at a pow wow
Im the average white girl who wants to experience your real American culture and go to the pow wows. (Just watching, not dancing!) Is it ok to bring my bucket load of children, and if they make noise, what is the proper etiquette? do i need to leave or something? Thank you for your reply!

Average fat stealing wasicu white girl, Please bring your bucketload of chickens. We have knives to gut and clean your chickens for the feed. Bring your puppies too, they can be used for puppy soup.

Wow Wanjica that was harsh. We don't eat puppies. If you think your kids are going to be a problem don't bring them. If I had a but load of kids and thought they would be disruptive I wouldn't take them to your church now would I.

Thanks for the positive feedback Wanjica. I guess maybe i should ve said I m not your average white girl intstead. Mostly because i have a lot of respect for your culture. I grew up in Montana with a lot of Indian friends. By the way, im not afraid of your threat to gut and eat my kids. I thought the pow wows were open to the public, my apology. I guess maybe not so.

Please note that there's a lot of teasing that goes on around here. And please note, he was talking about your bucketload of chicken, not kids.
I think it would be great for your kids to experience a powwow. Especially one that doesn't charge in case you decide to leave early. Scope out the situation when you get there, find a place with a good view, and watch on until your kids get ansy. Then take everybody and go get something to eat or drink...maybe check out the stands. Then you can decide if your kids can go watch on some more or do something else. Just don't let them act like all the ndn kids running around. ![]()

Average white girl, I am so sorry. I really thought that I read bucketload of chickens. You see, I am posting on a Blackberry Curve and chickens have been hounding me in my sleep. Your kids can never be too rowdy, just give them some frybread loaded with powdered sugar and a pop. They"ll be just fine.

learning a culture and heritage i was "denied" while i was young ...
hey all. im new here. i am a "newcomer". growing up i was told by my mom that i was "indian" but she didnt know "what kind" from my dads side. i have recently found out that i am cheyenne and some nez perce, from my dads side. and just the teeniest bit of blackfoot on my moms ( i have always known that). i have traced my people on my dads side to sorrelhorse at the signing of the ft laramie treaty. his son was just a young lil guy at the battle of lil big horn. he then had my granfather at an advanced age of about 55. WHO THEN had my dad at a young age who then had me at 30! ha and the cycle continues as my dad has a 4 yr old daughter at the ages of 63! but anyways i am here because i am wanting to learn my culture. my dad and i have talked at length. he spent the first ten years of his life mostly with his grandfather. and learned about being native and living native then. but there was a long gap in his life before he married a woman from warm springs ( wasco indian). he knows some of the cheyenne cutlure but more the warm springs. in talking with my dad so many questions as to why i have done certain things in my life have been answered. and when i was younger about middle school aged i did beadwork that i learned from someone close to me, not even knowing that i was cheyenne and that they were known for their beadwork. i dont know if my dad is even still on the rolls, as his name has been changed and his father removed himself as he was a "lost soul". but i want to do everything i can to learn my heritage and culture and give that to my children as well. i am currently attempting to learn to speak cheyenne and i will NOT give up. nanyways i look like a white girl but with native features to my face. i have green eyes and so does my dad. i am light skinned. anyways i am hoping to find others who can help me learn the culture and heritage and to make friends.
