Judge dismisses Alabama suit over Indian gaming

By Garry Mitchell
Mobile, Alabama (AP)

A federal judge has dismissed a challenge by Alabama Attorney General Troy King to the U.S. Department of the Interiorís authority to force the state to allow an expansion of gambling on American Indian lands.

U.S. District Judge William Steele ruled that the stateís lawsuit against the government was premature because federal officials havenít issued any order that would permit the Poarch Band of Creek Indians to expand its gaming options. The tribe joined the suit as intervenors to protect their interests.
