Laguna Development signs $2.5 million pact with UNM athletics

Albuquerque, New Mexico (AP)

New Mexico athletics officials have announced a $2.5 million sponsorship agreement with a tribal casino-hotel, the largest such deal in the history of Lobo sports.

University President David Schmidly was asked at a news conference if he saw any problems with having Laguna Pueblo’s Route 66 Casino Hotel as a business partner in college sports and if he expected any backlash.

I think that is just awesome and really forthcoming for US 1st Americans/Natives/Indians, you know us Indigenous people.
Maybe it'll be a stepping stone for other Casinos to follow or at least have a domino effect planning stage anyway!?! For us, Yakamas, we have a Yakama Sunkings Team, but not one native is a team player! Richard Dionne used to be a member, but he was ousted out during the picks. He went back home to Poplar, MT. The team plays up in the Yakima Sundome, it is city owned and they're the ones who generate revenue for goods sold.
{So best of luck to New Mexicos "dream team"!}
