Narragansett chief begins community service

South Kingstown, Rhode Island (AP)

The leader of the Narragansett tribe has begun his court-ordered community service by educating schoolchildren about his tribe’s history.

Dressed in partial tribal regalia, Chief Sachem Matthew Thomas was at Matunuck Elementary School in Wakefield on Oct. 6 to explain the eagle staff and peace pipe.

Good to see him doing this.....He does it anyway without a court order....

It should be pointed out that Matt was standing up for the Tribe's rights....The state of R.I. never has recognized the Narragansett. For that matter R.I. has been and will be sneaky at best.....
