"Please come and support this pow wow so that we will have another next year"
This was a nice community powwow held indoors on the grounds of St. Francis Xavier Church in Burbank. Hale & Company southern drum provided songs for Gourd Dancers and then Inter-Tribals.

There was an honoring for the "City of Angels Kateri" and "4 Kateri Circle" groups. About 20 women in attendance had pretty shawls with their Kateri groups' names stitched on, making a nice visual impact in the circle.

MC Ben Hale spoke to the gathering, recalling the numerous small powwows that used to be held all over the Los Angeles, CA area over the past few decades. Steve Bohay also spoke upon this history, the government relocation program that brought many families out to California, and the families dedication to maintain their cultures.

Saginaw Grant took the stage and spoke of Native traditions and teachings, and the cultural identity they all have a sense of protecting and passing on to the next generations.

Several vendors were on hand displaying Native jewelry, crafts, and frybread, Indian tacos were being made fresh in the church kitchen.

Well, let's see if next year there will be a follow-up St. Kateri Powwow, in Burbank...or ? This small "miracle" should be easy to grow bigger.

Thanks to the Kateri Circle - Pope Benedict XVI - and everyone else who helped making and/or giving the first NDN - Kateri Tekakwitha - a Mohawk girl - the status and being a Saint.

Since this german Pope resigns by the end of this month - the new Pope may also do a good job.

Toolbox: "Oh my... that image is quite disturbing."

Zeke: "But it is hard for me to believe a devout Catholic nun meant disrespect.."

I think the nun did not have bad intentions, wanted in this way to give respect. Renata
