Tribal casino near Kinder expanding

Kinder, Louisiana (AP)

Construction has begun on a seven-story hotel tower at the Coushatta Casino Resort in southwestern Louisiana.

The reservation casino is undergoing a $60 million expansion near Kinder. It will include 401 new rooms, bringing the total number of rooms at the casino-resort to more than 950.

Since its opening as a casino 16 years ago, the resort has grown to an operation that employs nearly 2,400 people and includes lodging, entertainment venues and a golf course.

General manager Conrad Granito told The Town-Talk that the resort had a “very strong 2010.” Unlike state-licensed casinos, tribal casinos are not required to report their gambling revenue to the public.
