Trouble in the water for the Blackfeet ppl

http://www.browningmontana.com/

August 31, 2011 - 8:00 p.m. The Boil Order issued for the Town of Browning has been elevated to a Do Not Use Order as a precautionary measure only until further notice. This is due to a possible breach of security of our water supply. We do not anticipate that the water tests will result in a positive test for contamination, but we are erring on the side of caution. Water may be used to flush toilets and wash clothes but do not consume. There are no indications of dangerous substances in the water.

HELENA - Officials with the Blackfeet Tribe say someone broke the lock on a tank that holds drinking water for Browning residents and they have been ordered not to use the water until it is tested for possible contamination.

Tribal communications director Wayne Smith says the 1 million gallon water tank was tampered with some time Wednesday and the Environmental Protection Agency advised the city to enact a "do no use" order to be safe.

Smith says there was no evidence that anyone put anything in the water, but it is being tested for bacterial and chemical contamination.

The tribe has purchased bottled water for residents.

Browning schools, Head Start and Blackfeet Community College were closed Thursday due to a lack of usable water.
