kill,

Your economic situation and the amount of help you can count on from friends and relatives is an important factor in answering your question.

Using myself as an example, i come from tribes that traditionally take pride in the generousity and value of giveaway items. I have a family song that is requested to be sung whenever I am honored. I set aside money and a pendleton to present to whomever starts the song. The money I receive from the people who donate to me is all placed on the drum.

I constantly keep a chest full of pendletons, star blankets, bed blankets and shawls for giveaway use. When other members of my family or close friends are going to have a giveaway, I share items with them.

If and when you are honored as a head man dancer, my advice would be to take your giveaway seriously and start preparing for it immediately. Do the best you can. That's all anyone can expect.

I hope this helps.
