where have you been? hiding under a rock? lol jks

yes, prairie chicken dancing is its own style and its even a traditional style of dance. its one of the oldest styles of dancing, can be traced back through the Blackfeet people for generations.

the answers to your questions and maybe to a few others can be in the some of the older threads. take a look at them, there is alot of good info.

I teach a cultural ed class in Minneapolis, and it blows my mind how many kids don't know which dance is which, nevermind where it comes from, who dances it, or why it's danced.

Coincidently, we're talking prairie chicken style and sewing/beading in my class right now, maybe red peacock could stop by and help out?!

Indian Ed is the system now, Cultural Ed is my class... and no, no Cheech and Chong movies. However, we did talk about the Hangover, Superbad, and Hot Tub time Machine while doing loom work today, so that's something.

center school on bloomington? suppose that's the new heart of the earth since hote was shut down last year(year before)? lol

good for you, nice to see ndns getting involved. i do miss the drum and dances back in the day. i tried getting involved with that again over at ain dah yung in st paul a few years ago and dude told - well we gotta do a background check, this and that and other stuff... and i was like hold up you can't be serious! wtf??? that didn't sound at all like the drum and dances i remember as a teenager.

"Up in smoke" came out in 1978, so if you were in jr high school, aged 12-15, if you were say 14 in 1978, that would be born in 1964, so you would be 46 today.
