Hello everyone,
I am located in Oklahoma and I am interested in learning to work with buckskin (to make jackets, mocs, etc.) I was told that sometimes hides are sold at powwows. Does anyone know of any specific powwows in OK where I can find someone who sells buckskin? Or can anyone refer me to a specific person in OK who still tans hides, and perhaps would be willing to show me how to cut and sew, etc.? Many thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction...

Are you in Oklahoma ? Are you willing to teach him ? Do you have any answers to the questions he posed ?
That's why I didn't answer any of his questions. I'm not in Oklahoma. I brain tan sometimes. It's a ton of work. I smoked my hides , and that's work too ! I could teach him but I'm not in the area he needs.Plus I'm way too busy right now. I don't know the vendors he needs either , so I didn't post.

I have bought some good German tanned buckskin from Crazy Crow. Google them. You can shop online or they will mail you a catalog. Depending on hide. Size and quality you are looking at roughly $100 per skin.

There are many Buckskin venders on the internet. There's BOOMERS on Etsy. Elsewhere there is Moscow Hide and Fur, Centralia Fur and Hide, and The Leather Guy. I've bought from all of these online sellers and have never been disappointed with what I received. That ought to get you started.
