Do I have the right to tell this story?

Hello everyone!

I just wanted to ask one question:

If you could make a short movie about the native American culture in today’s time what would be important for you to show/say.
Or what would be important to not do (Is that correct grammar? Forgive me if not English is not my mother tongue )

But when I searched the forum and read good, honest and sometimes a little harsh feedback I also god interested to tell the story I came up with to hear your opinion. Is it whitewashed or romanticised or even racist, maybe just unrealistic? And since I live in Germany it is difficult to come in contact with native American people so you are my only hope kind of .

So, the story is about a young girl with native American roots, but she knows little about that, she is simply not interested. One day she has some troubles and her grandmother (and that is where the movie begins) takes her to the canyons. They camp there one night and in the evening the grandmother dances a traditional dance(I got to do some better research on that matter). The girl finds it silly but soon she starts to enjoy it and feels the urge to dance along. She gets a pretty intense dream this night where she encounters the nightmares that her ancestors had to face. In the morning she is not a complete changed person or anything, but you see that she cares and is interested to learn and listen.

So why do I want to tell this story?
Because every time when I read, watch or hear about the crimes that this people did to the native Americans breaks my heart and I get angry. And making up characters and stories is my way to process.

Is this enough to give me the right to tell this story?
I really don't know and honestly, I am afraid to do it.
So, I'll be brave and try it!
If I fail, I’ll learn from it for sure.

And maybe some of you helps me to create a great short film.

So, I'll shut up now and listen to what you have to say

The strength and resilience of Native people. We're still here today and can tell our own stories.

You should consider telling a story closer to home, say about Hitler or the Gestapo.

About the Germanic tribes. The Irish are from the Celts, the Scots had clans.
