Question How do you think people should dress?

I have been to many powwows in my life but never really knew what was a good dress code. I would like for you guys to reply back on how you think the spectators or even dancers should dress? Please no negative comments.

Dancers dress to the category they are dancing...

Spectators dress to what is comfortable, having said that think what would be appropriate out in public?
Would you wear short shorts and a halter top to say church??
Further to the point would you wear Knee High Moccasins to the store? Or a headband and a Ribbon shirt to Applebees??
Spectators have no need to dress in anything other than what I would call street clothes. Clean with no holes in the knees...

J.C. Penny white t-shirt, Levi 501 button fly and New Balance 993s.

And a pair of real dark sunglasses to check out the Jingle Dancers!

For the 'tators, I recommend the same clothes that you'd wear to Disneyworld... (Yes, I'm being serious.)

If you're going to be in the arena for any reason, my only baseline -- could just be personal -- is long pants. Wear sandals, a sleeveless Adidas tank, I don't care: but I am big on long pants...

Odd, huh? The things/messages that stick with us? :)

I gauge my clothing as a spectator according to the a) weather b) mosquito, black fly and horse/deer fly population. One thing I've learned in the prairies/mountains is that the weather can change in a heartbeat so be prepared for anything. I've also learned that mozzies and flies are relentless and worse at night. Best to cover up if you don't want to be a fly's personal chew toy.

If I'm dancing, learned years ago to provide your own shade and weather cover.

i have mine too ZEKE....long skirts. all the women should be wearing long skirts and decent blouses...not showing all their ‘stuff’. Especially if the spectator goes anywhere near the arena. No shorts, pants, tanks, or whatever those little threads are. it seems to me, that most people should have some sense to dress modestly wherever they go, but especially to visit another culture. I was raised very strict and protected...so entering any religious area...(church, temple, etc.)..you always wore your “best” clothes. mended, clean and pressed. That is still my way of thinking.

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in as long as it's appropriate and not offensive. Dress for the season too. Don't wear what you would wear to a club but maybe wear what you would to a family restaurant.
