Longest Walk 5 in D.C. July 15, 2016

The Longest Walk 5 departed La Jolla, California on February 12, 2016, DENNIS BANKS and others, have walked & ran across the USA since, and will arrive in Washington D.C. on July 15, 2016 for an all-day event at the Lincoln Memorial.

Q. I need to fly over to cover this event, many of you know the D.C. well. Which airport is closest to Lincoln Memorial? Should I rent a vehicle, or take cab, due to parking issues?

thanks

For some reason the DC Native community hasn't been supporting the last 4 Longest Walks. The BIA, IHS, NMAI, NCAI, NIEA, NIHA, NIGA and 120 other agencies and organizations involving Native issues or have Native staff, are headquartered there.

In my opinion there is no support for them anywhere in the country !
There were few headlines in any papers. I know that a portion of the walk went through Lawrence and stopped by Haskell , but I don't remember hearing anything on the K.C. news about it. With all due respect to those involved , I think they lack the leadership and especially a voice to make their messages heard. Mr. Banks is known for his activism in the 70s , and in the past He had a fire and a voice that inspired others join and those that joined also had a fire that motivated them and together they inspired more, and A.I.M. made itself relevant. They no longer have that. The last A.I.M. bunch I ran into (they claimed AIM affiliation) were all white guys (and gals) ! Where are all the "real" ndns ? Oh , wait , we can't have racial bias ! Everyone's the same , blacks , whites , ndns , asians , nobody should see color! (< insert sarcasm here !) We need younger leaders that can speak....properly , not ghetto slang. They need to stop trying to be black. We have Tribes with warrior societies and clans , not gangs. We have traditions and languages. If they continue to ignore those , we will cease to exist ! Find some younger leaders that can rebuild that fire , promote our languages and traditions. Stop selling our ceremonies !

That's my rant for today. I'm sure it's not what most want to hear !

They say blood is thicker than water ! Now maple syrup is thicker than blood , so are pancakes more important than family ?

There are "Elders" and there are "Olders". Being the second one doesn't make the first one true !

Somebody is out there somewhere, thinking of you and the impact you made in their life.
It's not me....I think you're an idiot !

There's a chance you might not like me ,

but there's a bigger

chance I won't care

There is a lot of truth in your words. I recently went to a screening of a Leonard Peltier documentary. Afterword we discussed the future of the American Indian Movement. A consensus was their time has come and gone. There aren't too many Natives willing to give up their lives for AIM or Native Issues at this point in time...
