Looking for quote attributed to Native American chief
I was doing some research on the Southeastern tribes this summer and came across a quote attributed to a Native American that I have been wanting to verify. It was just a few sentences on Christianity -- something like, "White men have knowledge of God, but we cannot know him. We are shut out because of our sins," citing abortion and something else I can't remember.
It sounded like something a white person might make up, so I Googled it and the only source the book I read it in. I can't remember what it was. I think I also Googled the name of the person, possibly a chief, and don't think I found anything either. It was short and started with a C. I am assuming it was someone living in the late 19th or early 20th century. I'm 80% sure this was a Cherokee. It was probably in a book about the Southeastern tribes. I would really appreciate any help. Thank you! |
