I guess I'm just in a bad mood today. Because this reply is rubbing me the wrong way. So, I'll vent, LOL.

We're not talking about dancing here.

Rant part one: The OP wasn't initially talking about just studying. She was discussing practicing. In my book, that crossed the line into appropriation. The problem people were having was with the appropriation not the study.

Rant part two: Did you mean to say: Never mind if the subjects of your study are offended when you place them and their culture under your microscope? Because on my monitor what you wrote reads like the same old colonial privilege dismissal of Native concerns or objections. I trust you are just having a bad self-expression day.

As a student of the Indian culture, don't presume to expertise, you will always be a student. Don't interpret us, listen to us. Don't represent us, follow us. Don't exploit your knowledge to make yourself rich, rather pass on the knowledge. Other than that, listen, learn, dance and have fun.
bravo.......spoken like a true culture vulture

we rest our case
