So Zeke, I have two questions for you (since your job is to answer questions).

First, if two trains are leaving Kansas City, one heading to Denver and one to St. Louis. The first is a passenger train that is half full, the second is a fully loaded coal train. If they both leave at 2:00am central time, and they are both going 55mph in the country and 25 mph in the cities, how many points did Randy Paskemin win the grass dance contest at Thief River Falls last weekend?

Second, is it true you are better looking in person? i didn't have my glasses on when we met, so I was just wondering..........

1. Depends upon time zones, alternative realities, and whether or not he over-stepped.

2. I, certainly, would find it difficult to appear LESS attractive than I do in photographs: I am not photogenic.

It was GREAT talking to you.

Zeke - I would say that is a fair assumption ... but , personally, I cannot overlook certain choices made by past leaders of said tribes... without thinking "What a stupid *** choice." on some of their calls..

However, in relation to "they at least were trying".. I agree..

.... so, I will keep my comments to the present.

As do YOU.

I just like to spar, intellectually: I admit to deriving pleasure from it.

It's even cooler to do over scotch and cigars.

Hey Zeke! Can I really ask you questions?

I admit to being part of your fan club. Whenever I see your user name, I zip in to see what you have to say. Not that I always understand it, sometimes you are a bit too cerebral for me, but I enjoy reading your posts anyway.

I don't have any other questions right now. Maybe later.

Anyone can ask me anything, at anytime.

Some things I won't discuss here, like my family or uber-personal stuff, but -- in general -- I am pretty open.

I'm still trying to characterize myself. Once, I was an idealistic Utopian. Now, I am Captain Pragmatic. I think that's called venturing forth and getting your posterior handed to you, a few times.

I bet that I haven't had it on in a year.

The reality is that I am just not much of a powwow guy. I don't like camping, I don't like dust, and I don't really get the "high" that some folks receive from dancing. (And indoor dances are just blasphemy!)

I sort of consider powwows our version of rodeos or Civil War reenactments. I am aware that many folks, including most of my family, spend a lot of time attending them and putting them on but, if I'm driving somewhere, I'd rather go to a new museum...

Yes, I have real nice stuff that I rarely wear.

i find sometimes that i have this urge to go check out a pow wow ... i like you hate camping (i am an inside kinda girl when it comes to sleeping somewhere other than my comfy sleigh bed). usually after i haven't been to one in like awhile and once i get there ... it's just that same damn thing all over again.

sometimes it is a schmooze fest .... and i certainly am not one of those schmoozy kinda people either. can't handle people touching me and all the "OMG how have you been?!?!" with the big huge hug ... so not doing that LOL.

kind of prefer indoor pow wows to outside ... blasphemy!! LOL because i don't do porta potties ... and indoor ones usually have indoor toilets with sinks to wash your hands in.

Cool Thanks for the answer.Since this is Your question Thread...
I got another question.
Do you see Value in Powwows?
Either as perpetuation of some preserved customs/traditions or as a social event whereby people of a common background continue to create behavoirs to be viewed by future generations as traditions. (noted we are not talking about the "powwow people" that view powwow as some sort of religous or spiritual gathering)

Chris

Not really.

It's akin to asking if I find intrinsic value in tractor pulls, NASCAR, wine tastings or Texas Holdem' Tournaments.

If you enjoy doing it, go ahead. Heck, if you try hard enough, you may even be able to create a documentable sub-culture that could -- almost -- be recognized as self-sustaining.

But it's not as if powwows, especially today's incarnations, are inherently Native or even close to valid reality.

They're just rodeos or circuses for Indians, complete with a flag raising, Grand Entry, contests, exhibitions, air conditioning, admission, performing for the masses, and the infernal sale of trinkets: with people like KiowaKat claiming validation of their wares by virtue of being, "more clownish than thou," what with card-carrying lineage to Bozo, Clarabell or Patches...

Actually, most powwows sort of make me ill...
