Feather questions

OK. I have a question. I was gifted an eagle feather by my uncle. Circumstances... it was given a few years ago after I came home from deployment and decided to get out of the military for good. He wants me to wear it but I am unsure of how to go about doing that. I am female and have seen few Sioux women wearing them so I am lost and clueless. Somebody please help!! Any info or suggestions are greatly appreciated at this point.

Are you enrolled? Are you single or married, children or not? What band are you from? Why aren't you asking your family?

Qualifier... Are you carded / enrolled in a federally recognized tribe, or have some sort of papers for it? If not then it is illegal for you to possess it and certainly illegal for you to display it. Fines up to $25,000.

If you can legally possess the eagle feather, you should probably find a tribal elder and ask them. Traditions vary so widely from nation to nation. First, through, you need to see if you can have it legally.

Congratulations on being lost and clueless. I'm like that about life!

About the feather. You didn't say if you danced or if your uncle just said to wear it in everyday life. If it's everyday, tie it into the back of your hair. If you get stopped and the Feds take you in and fine you $25,000 and 6 years in jail...blame it on your uncle!

Gifting

Here is the Scoop: An Enrolled Member of a Federally Recognized Tribe and who has a Eagle Permit that includes the Feather may Gift a Feather to a Family Member or Other. However the assumption is that person is also enrolled and is using the feather in the manner consistant with the Eagle Permit such as Religious reasons and or other Traditional Ceremonies.
The Party of the first part merely makes a copy of the permit and writes on the back whom they are gifting it to and signs it. Within the packet it describes the process vaguely it is up to the owner of the permit to keep these records.

I have done this to several family members but they are all enrolled. It is very specific about that...
