HS Juniors It's Time to Get Ready for College

The scholarship application season for 2017-2018 is drawing to a close. But, it is time for all you juniors and parents of juniors to get to work. Nothing says the summer before my senior year, like working on your scholarship essays.

Note, I have not vetted these links. Always check Vetting a Charity That said, here's some links:

Also, don't ignore your local church. Many denominations have scholarships. If you're in the sciences, check out DOD programs even if you don't plan to go into the services. (Office of Naval Research and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research grants funded my graduate education and post-doc.)

Great resources!

Any special recommendations for a 2year graduate single mother pharmacy student?
She's trying for the IHS and Cobell again this year, along with several others.

Is her 2 year degree in pharm-tech? What state?

wyo_rose 03-07-2017 03:11 PM

Yes, she has a 2 year degree in Pharm/Tech.

She's now in her 2nd year of Pharmacy school at the University of Wyoming. Only received about $2000-3000 in scholarships last year to cover her $30K+ tuition (denied for the IHS and Cobell scholarships), and is getting smothered by student loans already.

She's having trouble filling out the Cobell scholarship right now...with questions like "you have to tell a story or joke to a room full of serious Native educators to make them laugh. What do you say to them?"

I'm at a loss and I usually make jokes and wisecracks off the top of my head all day long!!

The first thing that comes to mind is something about Native American Barbie, with her backpack and letter of intent to major in Native American Studies....I even forget how that joke goes!!!

American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists has internships with educational assistance. Walgreens, CVS, and Rite-Aid also have programs for employees. Some companies and hospital systems have an IHS like service commitment in exchange for educational assistance.

I'll try to get more info from my cousin, the former PharmTech instructor, and my aunt the retired UCLA nursing prof.
