Round dance love - by Quinton "Magwa" Tootoosis

There are times when the sequel outdoes the original……..not many times, but it does happen. In 2008, we all had the privilege of listening/owning a catalogue of round dance songs from Quinton “Magwa” Tootoosis. The 2nd CD release from this artist has arrived, and with it comes the predictable reviews of “awesome”, “badder”, etc., but I want to tell you to expect just great singing....which has always been the legacy of Magwa.

There are many great round dance recordings out there, and the Native American music world is full of beautiful songs portraying love, humor, and just plain rez life. ROUND DANCE LOVE conveys all these elements and more. I say more because the recordings and total music composition is pretty much unlike anything I have ever heard on a round dance album. The surprising sound effects coupled with the song themes are sprinkled with different flavors of rap, guitar riffs, and guest singers make this CD a “must have, got to own it” type of recording.

A good product undertaking isn’t accomplished by ones lonesome. A great team is also crucial when a project like this is envisioned and brought to reality. Magwa brings with him family and friends who have contributed with their own creativeness, talent, and wisdom which also make this endeavor a one of a kind production.

To be sure, many will eventually download and burn this just to enjoy the music*, but owning the CD brings a different type of “cool”. “I got the CD” is something that raises the eyebrows of those around you who know the artist. For those of us who got to see Quinton in action, all we have to do is envision him drumming as we play his music. His style of delivering a song is totally his own rhythms and motion, and this is depicted throughout ROUND DANCE LOVE.

On a personal note....yeah, I am cool, I own the CD.

*I do not in any way endorse this practice!
