I watched "Imprint" last night on netflix, starring Tonantzin Carmelo & Michael Spears. It was very suspenseful with a twist ending! This movie came out 2007, not sure if it was mentioned in the thread or not.

Also watched "Older Than America" on netflix, starring Georgina Lightning (who also directed it) & Adam Beach. This movie came out 2008. It was really good, the only problem I had with it was actors mouths not moving with the words....kinda like those old Japanese movies.

I would recommend both these movies as a "must see"!

Wyoming Museum Exhibits Photographs of Native Americans Who Worked in Hollywood Westerns with Actor Tim McCoy.

August 13, 2012

Lander, WY - The Museum of the American West will be exhibiting photographs of Native Americans who worked with matinee idol Tim McCoy in early Hollywood Westerns through August 31.

Reproductions of these publicity stills will be alongside enlargements of the individuals in the photograph. Colonel Tim McCoy recruited many families from amongst the Arapaho and Shoshone to work as movie extras, and the Museum invites residents of the Wind River Reservation to see if they can identify their relatives in the photographs, and recall their stories of Hollywood.

Col. Tim McCoy (1891-1978) was a western film star, circus performer and producer of the last traveling Wild West Show. As a young cowboy he was befriended by Goes in Lodge, and through his relationship with that Arapahoe family he learned Indian Sign Language, the universal means of communication amongst North American tribes. McCoy was inspired by all things Western, but it was his friendship and ability to communicate with Native Americans that got them both to Hollywood in 1922 to work on “The Covered Wagon”, and many later films.

“The Covered Wagon” was the first great Western epic film, produced by Players Lasky and directed by James Cruze. It launched the genre of "Cowboy and Indian" movies and McCoy became the middle man between Hollywood and the Native American performers. He was the recruiter and technical advisor for three silent black & white films, with help from James Farlow of Lander. The two created a touring stage show to introduce the films in the United States and Europe. Thirty five Wind River people toured Europe with McCoy in this capacity.

In 1926, MGM signed McCoy to be their Western movie star. He made 16 Western films with MGM, most of which included Native Americans and two of which were filmed in Wyoming. McCoy's contract with MGM ended in 1929 along with the era of the silent film. Nonetheless he went on to perform in about one hundred "talkies", and became the lead act for both the Barnum & Bailey and the Carson & Barnes circuses.

In 1951 he created a TV series – The Tim McCoy Show for which he received an Emmy. It ran for 39 episodes in which he talked about Western history and Native American culture, geared to a young adult audience. Till the end of his life Tim McCoy was an educator, passing on the stories and skills he learned in his cowboy days on the Wind River.

Photographs for this show have been curated by Elijah Cobb and are either in his personal collection or are courtesy of the Fremont County Pioneer Museum.
