Thumbs up Native American Videogame

Hi there,

I am a Game & Development student (English is my second language).

At this very moment, I am working on my non-commercial graduation project, a small prototype videogame, which will be greatly influenced by the uses and beauty of the .
If the prototype is interesting enough I might keep working on it after graduation.

I have researched the the best I can for now by reading blogs, watching documentaries and reading books written by professors in anthropology. The game will not portray the Aztecs, Mayaís or Natives that lived in/near South America (to limit the scope of the project).

I would love to hear some opinions and facts from people related to, or highly interested in the Natives, in order to truthfully represent the Native culture as possible.

The whole purpose of this project is to research the influences the use of cultures in games have and to raise/answer questions such as:

- How can the way the game is executed change the way the game is being perceived by the audience?

- Which sources of information are generally bad or good for using when it comes to representing the most accurately?

- Which of my game concepts are probably going to be received well and which ones would basically make the Native ancestors turn in their graves and are better not being used? Since my graduation project is meant to show the beauty of the culture, I will try my best to prevent the latter from happening.

I would like to point out this will NOT be an outrageous vs. colonist cowboy game or anything like that. This project is meant to show the beauty and lesser well known traditions/history of the .

- Part of the research is trying to visualize the culture in a more modern way, when it comes to visual esthetics. The latter is an interesting ethical/art subject in itself. So I also would really like to hear your opinions about the way I tried to modernize the old arts of the Natives.

I am willing to help out. But what can I do?

I will regularly post a couple of things on this forum necessary for my graduation research:

- Surveys about several synopsizes for the possible art, gameplay, audio and narrative
- Visual surveys with questions about the art iterations and sneak-peek gameplay
- Feel free to comment in this thread with good ideas!

I will post the first survey any day now, so please stay tuned if interested.
