What's that movie called with Nathaniel Archad (sp) and the werewolves and the french or english soldiers? I seen it once and never caught the title. Different from the average ndn film. Besides that my favs are thunderheart, dance me outside, smoke signals and skins.

Have you SEEN Smoke Signals? This was one of the funniest movies, cause I "got" it. Skins was really intense and a little to on the money for me, but I laughed at so many things in that movie, too. I guess it depends on which eyes you use to watch a Native Movie with. Native humor is soooooo far above frat movies like Porkys and Animal House or the American Pie series.

My very favorite native movie is Skins.....'cause.

"No maddah how fah! I will find you!"

had to sit through that one, but it was alright.

Still think Little Big Man's the best of all time!

Didn't care too much for the New World, 'cept, Pocahontas was hot! But that was to be expected....Hollywood and what not!

You know I dont see anyone mentioning the Hillerman movies that came on PBS. They had a great cast of characters, and were pretty good mysteries as well.

Lightbulb Just The Facts Ma'am...

Once Were Warriors.

Yes it was shot in New Zealand, and it's about the Maori. But many skins I've talked to about it, didn't even know it wasn't a US flick. It's gritty and beautiful and violent and in my purely subjective opinion it's one of the most honest and real portrayals of our life in any movie contemporary or historical. In fact New Zealand's entire Maori population turned out to see that flick. It made history down there after it's release in 94. It didn't reach North America till 96.

"Rapa Nui" was pretty awesome too. They cast every dark brown person they could find! I saw Mexicans and Pacific Islanders in that flick. The actress that plays the mother in "Once Were Warriors" has a small role in there. It's really an interesting flick. Rapa Nui came out in like 92 or 93. You'll recognize other actors and actresses in it, but there's too many to name here.

That one's a theoretical view of what happened on Easter Island before it's re-discovery in 1722, by Admiral Jacob Roggeveen. For those of you who don't know where Easter Island is, it's located 2350 miles west of Chile`.

Cool

I also really loved Robbie Robertsons special for PBS called "Making a Noise". That film was friggn awesom!

For those of you who don't know who Robbie Robertson.. He used to be a a group from Canada called Ronnie Hawk and the Hawks. Then left to join rock folk group known as the Band. And he accompanied Dylan on guitar back in the day. Before going solo.

Robbie Robertson is a member of the Mohawk Nation and is from the Six Nations Canada Reserve

I think that Little Bigman was the opening for NDN movies. I enjoyed it as a very humorous movie. A Man Called Horse was also an attempt to help NDN peoples, Though weak it also opened up the movies to NDNs.

I liked Thunderheart(too bad the new guy got to have a real vision), Smoke Signals(the John Wayne 9 song is now a standard)(I can also relate to the rez car in reverse), I can always rewatch Last of the Mohicans( the scenary was out of this world). The Last of the Dogmen was a nice love story as was Dances with Wolves. Both had humor and had sad moments. By the way maybe some of you Kiowas can help us out here, wasn't Kicking Bird a really a Kiowa Holyman?

Came out in 1985. Granted it's about South American Indians. But this movie had it all man! Based off a true story too.

It is indeed. But I can't watch it more than once a year though. There's just something about it. Great movie though.
