Cornbread

1. Preheat oven to 350. Put 4 tablespoons unsalted butter in an 8-inch square baking pan; place in oven just long enough to melt butter, about 3 minutes. In a bowl, stir together 1 cup flour (spooned and leveled), 1 cup cornmeal, 1/4 cup sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder and 1 teaspoon salt.

2. stir in 1 large egg and 3/4 cup milk until just combined.

3. Spoon batter into prepared pan and smooth top. Bake until golden and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean, about 30 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

If you're asking if I'm afraid to get in the kitchen and try something...the answer is 'no'.

If you're asking if I can cook alot of different things and they taste good...the answer is still 'no'!

Until I went to school in Seattle, about the only thing I could cook was poptarts - and even that was a stretch. My dad and my then boyfriend saw me floundering in school and suggested I give culinary arts a try. I guess my boyfriend was tired of cooking cream of wheat. I didn't realize how much I would love my new career. It's a lot of work, but I've never been more at home!
