Grape Dumplings

I got this great recipe in a powwow newspaper. I tried it right away and found it great!

1 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp shortening
1/2 cup grape juice
Mix flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and shortening. Add juice and mix into stiff dough. Roll dough very thin on floured board. Cut into strips 1/2" wide, 2" long. Drop into boiling grape juice, cover and cook for 10-12 mins.

They're sweet. I remember seeing something like that in a commod cookbook.

After you boil them (in more like 2 cups of grape juice), thicken the juice and pour it over.

Adding some seeded concord grapes to cook in the sauce is yummy.

The 1/2 cup of grape juice is added into the dough. You will need a lot more juice to boil it in, depending on the size of your pot and amount of dumplings, of course.

um...Kiowa food....

When I heard of these I thought that you put a grape inside the dumpling dough.

I heard you can do this with peaches, too.
