Grill or BBQ?
Can you use a propane grill (always had horrible luck with charcoal) to barbecue?

I got some really good baby back ribs, rubbed them with my secret dry rub, and tried to cook them on the indirect heat for a few hours.

Well...DH (Designated Hot grill boss) was in charge of flipping the last hour and put them over the DIRECT heat. Either that or just the nature of the propane heat dried them out without getting a nice BBQ texture.

I hate to break down and buy a smoker. Maybe I'll try Alton Brown's flowerpot BBQ technique.

Need some suggestions!

I'd say yes you can use propane, though you are not going to get some of the flavor you get when cooking with charcoal etc... They do make this kit that you stick in the grill and you pour in this stuff called "Liquid Smoke", and it adds some flavor as its made by passing the smoke from the charcaol or whatever is being burned through water and then they add some other flavorings. A friend of mine uses it all the time on his propane grill and the food tastes pretty darn good.

Hmmm....I might have to try that.

I did buy a big terra cotta flower pot and am going to try Alton Brown's "Q". Got me some applewood chips, round grills to fit inside, but my hot plate is too big.

I'll take pics and post the results.
