King Crab

I kinda went off my rocker and bought $50 of King Crab ON SALE!! And we just dusted half of it for lunch.

Of course the frozen doesn't compare to fresh, but I was wondering the best way to cook it.

I've seen it wrapped in damp towels and microwaved, cooked in the oven, grilled, and boiled. But I think the best way is to steam it.

I put some in my el cheapo bamboo steamer and it didn't take long at all. We had shrimp scampi too, and just dipped the crab in the extra garlic butter. And I actually sauteed some shrooms in the extra butter as well.

We have the bigger part of the legs left and half a body. Think I'll use the body meat in a crab dip...recipe to follow.

I hope it was Alaska King Crab, cuz its the best in the World. Anyhow, we eat it often enough, because its fresh. Right now its very fresh and we cook it several ways, however the best way is just to drop it into salted boiled water for five minutes. If you overcook it, it will get rubbery, if you under cook it, you may be leaving ice or bacteria on it.

It had to be from Alaska cuz it was HUMONGOUS!

I wish it was fresh cuz when you thaw it out, no matter how you do it, you lose a lot of the 'juice'. Now that I steam it, I throw the shells (and extra shrimp shells) in the pot liquid and boil it for stock.
