Super Bowl Stromboli

This is the traditional dish at my house on Super Bowl Sun..

Super Stromboli
1 tbls. butter or marg. 1c. sliced mushrooms 1/2 c. diced grn. peppers 1lb. loaf frozen bread dough, thawed
1/4 lb. ea. thin sliced ham, slalmi, provolone chesse
1/2 package pepperoni slices

Melt butter/marg. in large skillet over med. heat. Cook, 2-3 mins, stirring often, until soft. Remove from heat. Line a large baking sheet with foil. Place dough on foil and lightly pat out to a 14" square. Layer meat and cheese down center of dough. Top with mushrooms and peppers. Using a sharp knife, make 8 cuts, to within 1 1/2 " from filling, alons sides of dough. Alternately fold strips overlapping, into center, over the filling. cover and let rise in a warm, draft free place, 1 1/2hours or until double in bulk. Preheat oven to 350. Uncover dough and bake 45mins. or golden brown. Let stand 10 mins. before slicing. 8 servings

Those are the magazine directions-here's how I do it. We aren't real big on pastrami, so I use a whole pack of pepperoni slices and before I layer the dough strips over the filling, I pile on some mixed shredded cheese, along with some chopped onion. I bake the bread dough according to the package directons and it seems to work well. Edited to add: If there is any leftover, it freezes well. I just wrap it in freezer plastic. When I get ready to re-heat it, I just set it on the counter about 30. mins., the nuke it.
