How did your hatband come out super?? Did you finish it???

I'm getting read to string up my loom tonight and start on my belt. I'm hoping to have it done before the end of the month. Guess I'll be trying to bead like a madman (or should I say Beadman?) LOL

Well I'll post my opinion.

First, your warp threads are both too tight and too close together. You're also probably pulling the weft thread too tight after going through a row. The "S" curve waves sometimes occur about half way through a piece if the weft thread is being pulled too tight. To correct the problem leave about a half a bead's width of thread loop showing when you pull the weft thread through, and try to loosen each row as you go just a little bit. After 10 or so rows you should have it straightened out.

What kinda loom is it???

What kind of loom do you have Martha? Is it one of the metal ones. One of the ones that has a dowel on each side and a piece of wood on each end or is it the kind that is made of 1" x" wood for the base and sides? I use one I made similar to the last one. I have a screw in each end and I put 1/4" threaded rod across the top of each end. I tie my warp thread to the screw at one end, run it in one of the groves of the threaded rod, down to the other end, go through the groove, around the screw and back. Until I have all my warp threads in place. It's pretty easy and only takes a couple minutes.

Let me know what kind you got and I'll help you out. There is also some information at the beginning of this thread on how I make my looms. They work good and best of all they are cheap!!!

Joe

Well my loom is metal and has a spiral rod going across both ends, it has the two wood spools and a nail going thru it to hold it in place. and on the two wood pieces there are nails in it to hold the threads. but what i have been doing is tying all the strings together and looping them around the nails on the wood, then putting them in the spaces between the spiral, then tying it to the other nail on the other side, hmm,,,maybe that is the only way to do it, but it takes me like 30 minutes to get it all stringed up. so I thought maybe I was doing something wrong?

Instead of tying them all together first, you could simply tie the thread to the first nail, take the thread across the loom, using the coil for the first row, loop the thread over the nail in the other end, and bring the thread back through the secod row. Then loop the thread over the firs nail and repeat. Then when everything is done, you could use tape to hold all the threads in place and cut the thread off the nails on both ends. It shouldn't take but a couple of minutes to thread that up.

Good luck!

Wow that seem alot easier...so just take one thread not cut yet and keep threading it thru?

Yup. It would cut donw on prep time, and once it's on the loom it won't go anywhere anyway. If you want to be extra careful, take another length of thread and tie a knot around the 'junction point' where all the threads near each other just above the nail. But, if you use a piece of clear tape, wrapped on both sides, even if it only temporary, you should be fine.

Well I started on my new bracelet, it's looking great, black white yellow and red, arrow design, but anyways I did it the way you said and it took me like 8 minutes to do. Thanks for the tip Scott. Oh sorry didn't get the pics drawn tonight, but on my 2 hour trip tomorrow I will draw some. Thanks again,

Stringing those wire looms is a pain in the....well. The best thing for you to do is make a new loom that fits your needs, i.e. bead size and project size(s)

And I haven't been hiding, just lurking.
