here's a shot of the back...I glued the feathers' buckskin extensions against the back and also used a buckskin tie to hold them down (also glued)...the connector beads in the middle help hold the feathers apart so they don't flop around!

oh ok so the feather piece doesnt actually run threw the buckskin backing? correct? I think I see now. Makes sence... Thank-you for taking your time to post the pics and such. Thats really kind of you. I still cant get the hang of the thread wrapping. Its easier for me to bead it than to wrap. My wrapping looks poopy lol.

i imagine you'd have to wrap the feathers before spraying, but for my flutes i like the deft brand spray laquer or the defthane polyurithane. both dry super fast and leave a nice finish on flutes. might be good for spraying thread work and they arent too badly priced, i think about 4$ a can

I've never used a spray varnish for any of my work. When I do use lacquer/varnish, I use a brush on variety...you can use clear nail polish...but after many years it may yellow....and there's lots of brush on stuff available at your local craftstore....modgepodge top coats, delta-ceram-coats varnishes, just look around til you find something that'll work for you

varnishes tend to be an amber color to start with and clear as they dry, but do also tend to 'yellow' or darken as they age.
quality laquers tent to stay more on the clear side, but that can change with any number of variables from contaminants to environmental conditions when applied.
the nice thing about laquers .v varnish is that while varnish goes on one layer at a time and you end up with several thin layers, laquer will meld with each successive coat essentially giving one layer even with several applications.
thats what makes it nice for flutes, that its so easy to repair a finish. if your laquered flute gets all scratched up just buff out the gloss with some 0000 steel wool and spray on a new coat and youre good as new.

sure, it works great...the little bottles are darn convenient too! just remember, that if you want it to last forever, nail polish will eventually start turning yellow

thanks Flute Maker...come knockin' anytime! ;)
