Christmas Thanks - style

Posted 12-11-2007 at 07:03 PM by NorthofAda
It's been 1 year since I signed up on I've learned a lot and made some really great online friends. Since this is the time of year when Santa is making his list (and checking it twice, LOL) I decided to make my own list and thank everybody who has made this year special for me in their own way:

Eagle Plumes - Thank you for your kindness. On some of my saddest days you've been the one to send a friendly PM that really picked my spirits up. Thank you so much for encouraging me in my dancing and my crafting. I wish I knew you in person, but I'm glad I've at least gotten to know you here. All the best for the holidays to you and your family!

Homalosa - You were the first Chickasaw person I met on here, and you were so kind to offer advice on a couple of traditions where I was needing guidance. Thank you for helping out where you could.

NancyJo - I remember our first exchange on the forums, and you gave me advice to just get out there and start dancing intertribals, not to be afraid, but to just start learning. Thank you for helping me see past my apprehension and just get out there. It's changed my life.

ok24stacey - You're one of the only 2'ers that I've had the privilege of meeting in real life. Thanks for making the Red Earth powwow so much fun to watch, and for helping me not feel so self-conscious on camera at Hunting Moon.

Joe G - Thank you for setting up the "Inside the NBA" thread -that was one of the ones that I found the most enjoyable. I also remember one of our first exchanges, where I said something about olive skin, and you made a humorous retort. You helped me realize how much teasing and joking I was in for on this site - and it's just where I come when I'm looking to pick up my spirits.

stillrezin and JD -You guys make me laugh. Stillrezin's avatar with the horse eyes and the caption "look into my eyes" especially made me laugh every time I saw it. I'm always curious to see what you're saying on any given day. You're not just funny though, you seem to be really nice guys, too. Thanks for all your good-natured joking and clever posts.

WhoMe - Thanks for putting me in contact with some folks who have helped me in my learning of my people's traditions. That means more to me than I can say. Thank you, too, for your thought-provoking questions and witty comments. It has made for some really "meaty" discussions.

KiowaKat and timmy tiger - Thanks for standing up to folks who try to cheapen our culture by making claims that they can't back up, wannabes, twinkies, shamans, etc. Here's hoping that next year brings more of them to climb back under the rocks that they crawled out from.

little bird and ac_miss - As I've tried to learn more of my people's ways and live them out, it has brought conflict in terms of my Christianity and nativeness and how to balance those out. You both have been an encouragement to me and have helped me to see how I can be native and Christian without having to compromise. I can't thank you enough.

Paul G - Without you, there would be no, no webcasts, no Powwow Idol, and I'd get more work done (just kidding). Really, though, thank you for putting this site together and helping me to make so many native friends.

Czechy, Blackbear, Walela49 - Thank you for your great tutorials! You helped an amateur like me put together some pretty decent regalia (if I don't say so myself). I appreciate the time and effort you took to put this information out there for us to learn from.

wyo_rose - Thanks for all your cool recipes, and most of all for helping me to finally make some truly edible fry bread. You rock!

I've made so many friends on this site and have enjoyed conversation with each one of you. Time and space won't permit me to write a personal note to each of you, but be assured that: Foxmoon, Wardancer, Flutemaker, Spottedeagle, denman, Josiah, Zeke, creewoman, Oneida Dreamer, migiziwomen, crazywolf, coyot_in_the_house, lilbigwoman, Ginger, Mud Woman, and indian_heart_beat - you all contributed to a memorable year for me.

(Hopefully, I didn't miss anybody.)
