Any Pics?

We can't help you with anything unless we see some pics!

Powwows are social gatherings, be sure to bring all your white friends and dress them up in outfits too! Walmart around halloween is a great place to get outfits!

Problem? The problem is that you are a disrespectful bunch. IF you had any respect you'd respect the mass amount of NDN voices yelling "STOP!". So just quit.

Pics would be fun

"researched for a few months" and "lodges dance team advisor" I think are the problems.

I just celebrated my 28th anniversary of dancing at my first powwow two weeks ago. You're so young, what 15 or 16? You really do think you know what is what, but you really don't. And don't believe the "dance team advisor". The "problem" is something which you will probably never understand. And your not understanding is actually the problem.

Just go buy your "Northern Traditional Dancer" pamphlet (cough*crap*cough) from Crazy Crow and watch your youtube channels. Look at the pics here and listen to the conversations.

So you boy scouts just go around collecting information about a certain dance style of your choosing?? & then your dance team adviser decides its appropriate.. i.e you studied hard enough.. So thats when you get to make your outfit?? & maybe, just maybe a nice noble "indian" man gives you tips on how to be indian!! He'll teach you the moves & the ropes..so to speak... but really this so called "indian" guy don't know his beans from his rice..

So you go to all this trouble not to offend anyone. & by anyone I'm sayin' us natives.... Yet people will still get offended. Not matter how many times you tell them your reasons. In our minds your just another i.shda.ki^ playing indian.

So you learned all your keen moves from a hobbyist??? or was it from a so called trusted Generokee man who likes to moonlight around as ThunderEagle... & probably has bought, read & owns anything that has the following words: Native, Cherokee, Indigenous, Indian, Rez, Red, A.I.M, Powwow, The PEOPLE, etc... Plastered all over the damn cover.

i guess you can call a hobbyist someone who's whole family who did it i thought these forums were here to discuss about dancing and helping people who need it i'm getting tired of standing up for boy scouts just because some people are iggnorant and don't want to learn the proper way to dance and respect something that isn't theirs that is one reason i signed up on this forum in case i do need help so don't embaress myself in front of people who actually know how to dance whatever i'm done on the subject. by the way i think the cuffs look nice sorry for invading your thread brettcronkrite

the cuffs are made of yarn, that's not beadwork. Those cuffs are not good.

so dhays9, what oa lodge, what scout council, who are your elders?

Our elders well i don't know a whole lot of thier last names but some are the hutchison family, ted cox john snichder???? not sure on the spellin and more and we have a lot of past top 10 placers but i'm not completey sure on thier names one our recents is Michael Chambers who got 2nd in fancy a few years ago
But what you don't understand is that jsut because Michael Chambers got 2nd, doesn't mean he's any good in the "real powwow world".

You think I should try beadwork?

Son, when I go to a powwow, I don't take a shirt for each session, I take a different beaded outfit. I've got four fully-beaded fancy dance outfits with another one in progress. That's four aprons, yokes, belts, sets of side drops, cuffs, moc's, headbands, rosette's. I bead more in a day than you bead in a year. I've got 6 fancy bustle sets in my closet and another one in progress. I make more stuff in one week than your whole dance team does in a year.

You think I should do beadwork huh? Wow.
