Obama details help for American Indian tribes

Washington (AP)

President Barack Obama has told Native American leaders that hes working hard to help them meet the challenges facing tribal nations.

The president described his efforts on their behalf at a conference of tribal nations last week attended by more than 500 people representing 320-plus tribes.

I am disappointed in Obama's decision to make a joke at this moment by playing off the translation of the name given to him by the Crow Nation.

Maybe at a more intimate setting with a group of friends, like at a backyard BBQ...but not at meeting of national scale, at a crossroads in history.

Abraham Lincoln had a great sense of humor, yet he made such profound speeches at his great moments in history.
