  • Just found out I have American Indian Great Grandparents.

Im 27 and was raised by the paternal side of my family which is blonde, english, and generally 6 1/2 feet tall. I am 5' 7" stocky, I have black hair which is almost gray. I recently got in contact with my mother and during our 1st conversation I asked her about my "looks" and she said, "oh your an indian". I just laughed it off thinking everyone thinks at some time or another their American Indian though some decent, until today when she sent me this picture

    ....

The peeople sitting are my mothers grandparents. The woman standing is the man sittings sister, and the man standing is 'just a friend'. I am a little amazed. Not only that these relatives (my great grandparents are obviously Native) but that I look so much like the man sitting. <-picture of me

So now that Im almost 30 and know that I belong to something I have no idea what that something is, I have a name but no place of birth no year of death.. and NO idea what tribe he belonged to. Where can I start??

    Thanks!

She will sense her name being mentioned and she will just show up !
I believe blood quantums are the governments way to breed us out of existance !

They say blood is thicker than water ! Now maple syrup is thicker than blood , so are pancakes more important than family ?

There are "Elders" and there are "Olders". Being the second one doesn't make the first one true !

Somebody is out there somewhere, thinking of you and the impact you made in their life.
        It's not me....I think you're an idiot !

There's a chance you might not like me ,

        but there's a bigger

        chance I won't care

Well its finally nice to have a resemblance to someone! I would have never guessed american indian. Im not sure what to think, I do wanna know what tribe, the history of the tribe and see if I still have family connected to it. As far as considering myself indian. No, I spent my whole life check marking white/caucasian.. I dont think thats gonna change. Not like I have any casino money coming to me or anything a great-grandparent is pretty far back I guess. Im just curious. Going to have to get ahold of some birth certificates or something, like I said I have nothing to work on besides this picture and a name, year and location.

                  Did your birth-mother have siblings?

Did your birth-mother have other children?

We seem to have lives and we don't live on the internet. White folk always have one thing on their mind and it is, "gimme, gimme and give it to me now." We live on Indian time and from the looks of your people, they look black or some type of mulatto or mayate mix. If you lost your people, Timmy Tiger is the key to your matrix.

Forgive our lack of traffic...we're just getting back on our feet after a major server crash.

But please note that we do not collect geneaology info on our site, but do have members who are willing to help you with your quest.

I think your pic is interesting...it is pretty cool to find an ancestor that you resemble. Until TT gets here to help, here's my suggestion:

Start a family tree with what info you have.
Sign up for the free 30 day trial at ancestry.com.
Search there by names, locations and dates...which is what you said you already have to start.
TT will have other resources to check, I'm sure.

If you watch Ancestors on BYU TV on satellite, you'll see how thoroughly those genealogists search and document, even little things. But yes, start with YOU and work yourself backwards to these great grandparents...documenting along the way.
                              ...it is what it is...
