  • Native Veteran Passes

    On March 7, 2007 Billy Walkaround, A Cherokee Veteran of the Vietnam War Passed over. He was most likely the most highly decorated Native Veteran of that conflict. He was awarded the Distinguished Servic Cross, Purple Heart, Five Silver Stars and Five Bronze Stars. He was a Sargeant in the Army Rangers at the age of 18. His Platoon had a routine mission of assasination of upper level enemy leaders behind enemy lines.
    He lived in a Conneticut tribal area at the time of his passing and crossed over as a result of pnemonia complicated by exposuer to agent orange defoliant in Vietnam.
