Blackbear, I am so sorry to hear of your loss - he sounds like he was a magnificant person. I know you were honored to know him, and as the story read, I know he thought the world of you and the people around him. I will keep his family and friends like you in my prayers.

I always feel bad when I hear about folks like this passing on young - people who really give of themselves and try to make others' lives better and more enjoyable.

There are too many folks that I know who are just the opposite, who are parasites, looking out for #1 and not giving a hoot about their fellow man - some of them live way too long, in my opinion. Sometimes it just doesn't seem fair.

Brian F. Mooney, 38, unexpectedly passed on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, in Kathmandu, Nepal.

He was born June 1, 1969, in St. Louis, to Jack and Barb (Koehler) Mooney.

He spent his younger years growing up in Elsah and graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1987. He took a leave a of absence from his place of employment to volunteer for Volunteer Service Nepal (VSN) and spent the last three months of his life in Kathmandu, Nepal managing a project to build an orphanage. He spent a greater part of his life traveling and was able to see 21 percent of the world.

Survivors include his parents, Jack and Barb Mooney of Elsah; a brother, Shawn Mooney and his wife, Nichole, of Grafton; eight aunts and uncles; numerous cousins, and his dog Kai.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harold and Jane Mooney and Clarence and Ruth Koehler.

He was one of the very rare people you meet in life that gave the words brother, son and friend a sincere meaning . He was known by many and loved by all.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at Elias Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.

Service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Brian Mooney Memorial Fund. All donations to this fund will go directly to Volunteer Service Nepal for the remaining construction of The Shining Stars Children's Home orphanage. For more information and to make donations, visit .: GVN Foundation :.
