Orval Kirk passing

Hello everyone. I just wanted to let you know that my adopted dad, Orval Kirk, has lost his battle with cancer. I received a phone call this morning and was told that he passed from this life at about 4:00AM. My husband and I were with the family until midnight last night, at the hospital.

Orval was a great man, father, grandfather, friend and a well known emcee. Loved by many throughout Oklahoma, known by many on the pow-wow circuit, and throughout Kickapoo country. Please keep the family and loved ones in prayer as we help the family get Orval home.

We don't have all the details as of this hour, but I will post them as they become available. I do know that there will be services at the Friend Center Church in Mcloud. I am just not sure of the times and dates.

Is how we will always remember him, I am thankful we got to dance with him one more time a few weeks ago we knew that he was ailing and our hope that he would be with us forever!

I will always have fond memories of him and will miss him at the Mic. A great MC has passed from this Earth...

"His body will be taken to Walker funeral home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. . ( 405. 273.4700)

Funeral services will be at Kickapoo Friends Center in McLoud, Oklahoma at 2: 00pm, Thursday. Services will be conducted by Marvin Thurman (Sac and Fox) and Brad Wood. Burial will be at the family cemetery N.E. of McLoud."

I'm so sorry to hear this. Orville was a good and very kind man. My prayers go out to the family. He was one of my favorite MC's and he will be greatly missed.

My deepest condolences to Mr Kirk's family...

I remember fun times at pws in OK, where Mr. Kirk was the MC. He voice and presence will be greatly missed.

Marjorie and Kim! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss! I heard yesterday and I thought of you guys.

My family sends our prayers and thoughts with Orval's family during this time.

Orval was a good guy.
He was there when me and my sister decided to dance more regularly (as opposed to the couple times a summer). I was princess for the Kickapoo Pow-wow Committee and he helped us out during that time. Since that time, every time we seen him, he was always smiling and happy to see us.

I thought a lot of Orval. He always said good things when he emceed and also when he spoke for giveaways.

Because of his special talents, I recommended Orval to be the emcee at the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) Powwow in Anchorage, Alaska awhile back. While in Alaska, we rode a small plane to the village of Tyonek for a potlatch for a well known Athabascan storyteller named Shem Pete. We had some humorous stories to tell about that particular trip.

I had the pleasure of co-emceeing with Orval at the Seminole powwow in Oklahoma. I felt proud that I could sit next to a man who I considered a mentor.

RIP my friend. I am honored to have known you.

I'm very very sorry to hear of Orville's passing~~~ he was a good person and an awesome mc. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. I send my prayers to the Kirk family.
