  • Buyer Beware!! Fraud Posting Our Photos On Their Website Pics Of Our Regalia!!

    Hi All!

I recently found out that another website has been taking pictures from my family's business website (littlecrowtradingpost.com) and posting them on their website without getting our permission or even acknowledging that it isn't their work!! Whats even worse is this person, (Rita Chance) has taken MY graduation pic and posted it under her name.. To me, it makes it look like she's trying to come off as if MY pic is her! I feel very violated and disgusted at this, and want people to know what they're up too. There is even a pic from the Sharpsindianstore.com website as well on there. The fully beaded (NOT EMBROIDERED by the way) blue buckskin on their wedding page is MY buckskin that I wore as a teen (and is also the one im wearing in my grad pic, before it was finished). The fancy shawl is mine as well.. I designed it, and my Aunt made it for me. It makes me sick to not only see my outfits on there with inaccurate description, but even a price below them!! IF this person has been sewing since 1997, as her page says, then why can't she post her own work??!! Anybody out there know what I can do to get our pics off of that website??

Compare for yourselves....Alot of the pics belong to Littlecrowtradingpost.com.. you guys might even recognize pics from other sites as well...

Here's showing Which pics are ours and they are using without our consent.

I recognize those shirts and dresses right away! Don't know what they are trying to pull. I remember when you posted pics of your buckskin with the eagle on it in the gallery here. I would absolutely contact an attorney!!! Make sure you print all the pages from their website as soon as possible or save them on CD.

This site is a powerful tool as well. You know once word spreads that you are on here letting others know the truth, the website will get changed. It works that way a lot. Too many people come on here!!!!! That's why I made the suggestion about printing the pages and also the CD!!

I'm going to email them or post comments or something. Tricking people like that is wrong, it's bad business, it's a shame. Not to mention immoral, dishonest, and probally criminal. AND THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING WHEN THEY DID IT!!!!!!!!!!

      SHAME ON THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My friend is going through something similiar and has contacted an attorney. Spotted Eagle made a good point. I would print the pages out so the URL shows up on the top. I believe my friend had to ask the website to remove the photos first and then when they didn't she had to continue legally.

Hopefully this website can start you in the right direction.

        Web Site Legal Issues (BitLaw)

Here is a relevant quote from the site above:

"Taking images from third-parties. The simple rule is, "Don't steal someone else's images." The moment an original image (or string of text) is fixed on a hard drive for the first time, it is protected by copyright. Any unauthorized copying of a protected image is an infringement of the creator's copyright, unless the use falls within one of the very limited exceptions to the copyright law, such as "fair use." In most cases, it is unlikely that the incorporation of an image into a commercial web-site would be considered a fair use. "

        Best wishes!

Of course they did. Thanks for the replies.. I wanted to get the word out on this. If anything, I would hate for people to be sending them money for orders thinking they made these outfits! Not too mention, Im sure there are other people's work on there as well. Outfits are so personal, for the person who owns it and the one who made it.
Oh yeah..I forgot a page too...

I'm new and posted a comment with a link without realizing it had to be approved first (which is a good thing) ... I'm not sure how long that takes so I will be repeating myself somewhat.

I just wanted to add to Spotted Eagles' comment and say that once an image is stored on a hard drive, memory card, etc for the first time it is protected by copyright. You really don't have to post it anywhere on your site even though I'm sure it helps.

I have heard of these folks! They are in our neighboring city and are supposed to be big new agers. NDN folks here don't seem sot like them much, I have never met one. I am sorry they are being so dang dishonest with you! If they don't stop, well, the drive ain't far for me!

I just looked at those links on Rita Chance's page. Am I mistaken, or does it look like a couple of pics have actually been removed?

Kind of hypocritical for them to state that "we do not duplicate any dress," but then they use someone else's pictures. Shame on them!

BTW, when I made my daughters' fancy shawl outfits I got a lot of help from the Littlecrows' contributions on that Fancy Shawl DVD that is out, especially on how to do the applique and putting the ribbons on.

You folks do beautiful work, and it's a shame to see someone ripping you off like that!

I just received this message from Bonnie Whitecloud with Manataka.

We did verify the photos do belong to LittleCrow and were improperly placed on our website. All the photos are gone and the individual responsible has been given a healthy lesson in properiety medicine and is now on notice of termination.

Wow.. word gets around fast ennit? The people from the Manataka site have apologized, and removed our pictures. For anyone else out there going through something like this, Littlecrowtradingpost.com will be adding a section to inform people on what they can legally do for matters such as this. There will be links for forms ect. We don't want anybody else to have to go through what we've have went through. Thanks for the replies, and help. It is greatly appreciated!
