  • Being Right

When I was in second grade and the only skin in my 400 kid white school the bus ride was only the first level of hell
There was this big ole redneck kid who's nickname was ironically BUBBA
Well BUBBA had some pretty well formulated opinions about our people that's for sure
Ole BUBBA thought so much of our people that he told me just what he knew about Indians
BUBBA said that our people all got together in a horse coral and in that coral there was a huge amount of horse and cow manure and we all hopped around and whooped and hollered and carried on with our selves.
After spouting such enigmatic wisdom to me he looked quite pleased with himself
The guy seemed to know quite a lot about our people and said it with extreme confidence
I was amazed I did not hear that one passed down orally from my Grandfather or Grandmother
It was then that I realized that being right doesn't always protect you from getting beat up...

I had a BUBBA too, BUBBA SMITH! The big meaty country boy thought it was funny to be at the next door neighbors house, making whooping noises. I was 16 at the time, still hung out in the cities (despite mom transplanting me into little germany usa, an hour out) and brought my girls back with me to deal with this problem. we circled that big boy in henpecked him bout our native-ness. the littlest was Jodi at a size nothing...she kept flipping his hat off his head and told him to keep his had off when we are speaking to him, BOY! he cried and we girls felt gratified. he was a very polite person afterwards...
