Make your daughters see the wisdom of dating/marrying DORKS not thugs. The most dangerous thing about Dorks is they just might kick too many people's tails on a video game or play GI Joe or Transformers with their kids. Or worse yet know way way too much about dinosaurs...

Way before movies, Natives were exploited in the travelling shows that Buffalo Bill Cody and others performed. As you know, they were portrayed as savage warriors, and hype has always sold tickets.

President Roosevelt included six prominent chiefs in his 1905 inauguaration parade:

Indians on the Inaugural March | Heritage | Smithsonian Magazine

The men were all Indian chiefs—Quanah Parker (Comanche), Buckskin Charlie (Ute), American Horse (Sioux), Little Plume (Blackfeet), Hollow Horn Bear (Sioux) and Geronimo (Apache)—and each was adorned with face paint and elaborate feather headdresses that attested to their accomplishments. However, the causes they fought for over the course of their lifetimes were at odds with those of the American government.

Indeed, the newspapers of the day were quick to remind readers of the Indian wars, emphasizing the blood spilled by frontier settlers at the hands of Native Americans, going so far as to label them savages. Woodworth Clum, a member of the inaugural committee, questioned the president’s decision to have the chiefs participate, especially Geronimo, who was first captured by Clum’s father, an Apache agent.

“Why did you select Geronimo to march in your parade, Mr. President? He is the greatest single-handed murderer in American history?” asked Clum.

“I wanted to give the people a good show,” was Roosevelt’s simple reply.

            (end)

The main media power is the TV screen (Neilson ratings), and it seems that TV shows have far less mention of Natives nowadays. Well, shows like Gunsmoke and Bonanza were hits when I was growing up. All those westerns and such died-out, and it seems the media then stopped looking for Native actors.

                  About Mile Post 398

When it comes to depicting life on the Navajo Nation, Mile Post 398 captures the essence of surviving day-to-day living as the shadows of alcoholism pound at the door. From his earliest memories, Cloyd has witnessed the uglier side of life while being surrounded by alcohol abuse and domestic violence. Each time he attempts to turn over a new leaf his friends Jimmy and Marty mastermind a plan to sway Cloyd from his ultimate hope of saving himself and beloved family. A choice must be made, but only Cloyd holds the power to salvage what is left of his life, or allow it to slip away into despair. Mile Post 398 truly touches the heart and captivates the spirit.

Mile Post 398 is the first full feature film from award winning (2005 American Indian Film Festival – Best Public Service “G Methamphetamine on the Navajo Nation”) Navajo directors Shonie and Andee De La Rosa, the film is also the first of its kind to be produced entirely on the Navajo Nation and utilize an entire Navajo cast and crew.

A unique and original soundtrack was also used for Mile Post 398. The film features the music of Coalition, Ethnic De Generation, Keddah, Rising Conviction and Aaron White.

Mile Post 398 features the following:

                  Beau Benally as Cloyd Begay
Gerald Vandever (Skinwalkers and Black Cloud) as Jimmy

Yep, this is Shonie. Who are you?

I'm not doing NAMM this year. I wasn't too happy with it last year. Certain individuals at the NA Pavillion kinda ruined the entire thing for me.

Mile Post 398 has been out for a while now. We released it in 2006 and sold well over 20,000 copies by distributing the film on our own.

We had a couple of offers from distributors to distribute our film but I really don't see why a distributor should make more money off of a film we made. Look into DVD duplication and packaging and do the math. Distributors are a rip off. Sure you may get your movie out to a larger audience, but at what costs? With a little hard work and dedication, you are better off distributing on your own. At least for us it was.

WOW! @ $500 Each? That's serious money! I mean, money into YOUR pocket (the bestest kinda money!)

Ennywayz...yeah, I have burned-out a couple of store-bought DVD duplicators for my own little non-profit project

I need to get recommend on heavy duty commercial machine, or farm out my duplo work. You did 20K DVD's?

                        California Indian: A Tribal Story

                        http://www.californiaindian.com/

                        Synopsis:

Nick Thomas, a Pomo Indian and a successful Los Angeles radio host, is forced back to the reservation to help his brother Chi (Gil Birmingham), and tribal leader Rich Knight (Gary Farmer) lead the Tule Lake Rancheria out of danger from a seedy casino investor (Mark Boone Jr.), ultimately claiming sovereignty of their Native American rights.

The struggles inherent on reservations today are depicted in this day-in-the-life drama based on true characters and events. The film dispels current stereotypes and myths about modern Native American culture while showcasing the depths of the heritage that thrives today.

                        Film Facts:

Shot on location in Lakeport, California (Clear Lake), in Lake County, North of San Francisco, home to The Big Valley Rancheria.
Pomo tribal members, who had no prior acting experience, were cast in many of the roles in the film, which allowed for greater authenticity of the portrayal of the tribe.
Contributors to the making of the film include: The Big Valley Rancheria, The Robinson Rancheria, The Konocti Vista Casino Resort and Marina, The Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino, the local Lakeport CA community
                        Film Specs:

Length of Film (total running time): 97 minutes 40 seconds
Camera: Panasonic AG-DVX100, shot in 24p
                        Sound: Dolby Stereo
                        Aspect Ratio: 4:3 letterboxed
                        Filmmaker’s Vision:

My true goal of becoming a filmmaker is to tell stories. Another goal is to help educate the world about my tribe, in particular, and the Native American culture in general. There are so many stereotypes and wrong impressions about modern day Native American culture, and so few Native American filmmakers help tell the stories, that I felt compelled to follow this calling.

As a writer I wanted to write Nick’s story, which was for all intents and purposes, my story. In choosing Nick’s career path outside the reservation I actually went to the extreme to defy the common monosyllabic stereotype and created his character to be very talkative, well versed and extremely popular as a sports radio host. In radio, all you do is talk!

As a producer and now director, my goal is to keep telling stories and honor who I am and where I came from. There are 280,000 “urban Indians” that currently live in Los Angeles, and like me, they are very comfortable balancing both worlds. They successfully transitioned from the “rez” to the city without losing their cultural ties in the process.

I hope you will enjoy my California story and the Pomo Indian experience.

A quick list I compiled showcasing actors and actresses of Native descent. I am quite aware this list is missing tons of prominant figures in the Native film industry, but please keep in mind, that this is only the start and that I am also only posting those with images on their profile.

On the flight back, the plane's engine fails and they crash in the tundra. Rescuers are unable to locate them. The two are left to struggle for their survival. The ailing Inuit woman her own upbringing thus teaches the hot-headed pilot the way to live in these regions as they hike their way toward civilization.
