I kind of like it. Not a big R&B fan, but the video makes the song for me. I think it's pretty neat.

I didn't see the pentagram in her earrings at first. I'm not sure that was an intentional thing or meant to disrespect anyone.

What I would like to hear/see is what the hoop dancers and the fancy dancer thought of it all. I know that they must have been paid, but is there another reason they agreed to be in the video?

Maybe it's about exposing the main stream society to a part of our culture. I agree that maybe a hip hop video might have been a shaky way to go about it.

Do you see it as just Natives showing off tricks? Is it the context of the video that you don't like? Or is it everything that upsets you?

What I disliked is that Nelly seemed to be bigger than the skyline towards the end and she was looking down on everything...even the fancy shaw dancer. That part I could have done without. But then again maybe we're reading too much into the video?

lee, not sure why a pentagram is upsetting you. It's a very ancient symbol used by many, many religious orders.

Christians have used it to represent the five wounds of Jesus and in some denominations it represents the five Joys of Mary. It has been used by Greeks, Romans and Surmarians. Mormons use the symbol in their architecture and the B'hai also use it. Morocco and Ethiopia use the symbol in their country's national flags. It is often equated to represent the seal of Solomon. Freemasonry also use it and it it s the symbol of the Eastern Star (women's group).

In art work it also is known as the Golden Ratio and you can see it being used by DaVinci in his work The Vitruvian Man.

It has distinct mathematical formulations and it used in tracking the orbit of Venus in astronomy.

It's not always representative of something bad or evil.

Ok Lee, but I am going to warn you that you are being disrespectful to those people who do not particularly believe in what you do.

And before you get all Free speechy on me, know that denigrating another person's faith simply because it does not agree with you is not free speech.

Calling someone a false convert is insensitive to the centuries in which Native Americans and First Nation Canadians were missionized in the name of Christianity. Many, many communities are still tied to those conversions and have paid a heavy price for it.

Many Native families were torn apart by Christian churches and their teachings. I think you need to find a library and do some reading. For many Christian native people, they struggle with their belief and their traditions. Many have found a balance and you certainly do not have the knowledge or experience to question them, insult them or deride them. And you certainly do not have the right to call anyone a false convert.

I have noted that since your first postings on here, you seem to have a knack to alienate people with your demeanor. As my grandmother would say, "It's time to take the cotton out of your ears and put it in your mouth."

If you do not enjoy the Furtado video and the lovely dancing done by world champion dancers, then give the video and thread a miss. Alleging that because of a symbol that has been used for centuries appears in the video that it must be a work of the devil, only makes you sound as so many evangelist. missionaries and priests sounded when they arrived here to "convert" us.

You appear to not be able to grasp the simplest of concepts about First Nation people via our humour, our ways or the manner in which we celebrate each other's accomplishments. The fact that our dances appear in a mainstream music video is for many if us, a very big deal. You however, wish to make it appear to be the work of the devil. Not cool at all.

I think you need to stop for a moment and ask yourself what are expecting out of this site? What are giving back to it?
