Cough, cough......it's cold time here. What is your best remedy for a cold? While at a meeting yesterday, someone suggest cinnamon and honey. People were also talking about hot toddies & other concoctions. I'm ready to get out of runny nose & tissue ville.

    PL:
1 cebulę pokroić w kostkę wsypać do miseczki posypać cukrem, cebula, cukier, musi stać w ciepłym miejscu 1 -2 dni aż puści sok pić 2 łyżki 3 razy dziennie
    EN:
1 onion, cut into cubes place in a bowl with sugar, onion, sugar, must stand in warm place for 1 to 2 days until lets go drink juice 2 tbsp 3 times a day
Codziennie budzę się piękniejsza, ale dziś to już chyba przesadziłam

My late stepgrandfather told me the same, except the juice will have to stand longer than 1 or 2 days, forgot how long he said. And it has to be in a covered jar without any air getting in - as far as I remember. He came from an area which is on poland or russian land now.

Going through the same thing, my boyfriend got really sick so I don't want it worse. Echinacea and goldenseal combo capsules or echinacea tea, teas with rosehips for the vitamin c, keeping your sinuses clear, taking green coffee extract cleared mine (it must have ephedra) or xlear nasal or whatever you use. Aromatic stuff like eucalyptis and pine. If it is in your lungs you can use a poultice of really warm milk and white bread, heat the milk in microwave or pan, when it is as hot as you can stand it, put a piece of white bread in it. take the white bread out and put it on your chest. Wheat bread that is sandwich bread will work to but cheap white bread works best. this works on spider bites and lots of other bites, sores, etc. The lactic acid in the milk draws the poison out.

I hope you feel better. I broke down and started using afrin, it works, hopefully I will get better before I have to quit using it.

I had that awful cold that turned into bronchitis. I took 2 and a half weeks to get over and I was on 7 different medications. The codeine cough syrup at night was fun, LOL.

There are few strains of the cold, flu, and a norovirus making the rounds through the university I work at. I'm resistant to most strains of the flu and most noroviruses. I only get colds when the weather starts acting up and switches from being hot and cold over the course of a few days. I do wish I could find the person who coughed on their hands and touched whatever I touched that caused that last infection I had because I'd beat them senseless for poor hygiene.

Toolbox, it probably didn't help that it was 59 degrees one day(and I pushed myself outside walking in the park, doing about a 4 mile walk) & didn't listen to my body when I had a stuffy nose on Friday & still went out early on Saturday for my training walk in upper 20's to about 30 degree temps. I guess I pushed myself too hard, training for a half marathon that is in May. I went to the store this afternoon & bought lots of tissues, hand sanitizer, meds., and some OJ. I already had oranges, but a little extra "C" should help. I'm ready for it to go away Now.

Sadly there are no real remedies that will help you get through the cold or flu once you contract it, it just has to be allowed to run it's course before your immune system gets the better of it.
That said I load up on Vitamin C and make a huge pot of Chicken Soup. While it might not help in taking the bug out of your system, it does a lot to make you feel good!
Proper hygiene before during and after the cold/flu is the most important thing one can do to lessen the severity or even prevent catching it to begin with. Also be the first in line to receive the yearly flu shot, if your body is able to handle it.
                Hope you feel better soon!

If you catch it quick, you can take TAMIFLU, and it can knock it out.

When I was a kid I had a bad case of chicken pox, and a couple years ago, I had a case of SHINGLES!! You know that dreaded thing that chicken pox causes. The doc gave me TAMIFLU and it didn't totally cure me, but it stopped it in its tracks. They caught it soon enough.
