  • "The Pot Powwow"

The Atlantic Magazine recently ran an article calling the Gathering of Nations Powwow "The Pot Powwow."

Should marijuana be associated with powwows? What do you think?

Powwows will continue to evolve in many directions. It is inevitable.

    Marijuana is abused

Why must I feel like that..why must I chase the cat?

Coors used to sponsor powwows, Budweiser , Busch , Pepsi among others. How is this any different and how long until the "politically correct" bunch sway popular opinion against them ? Corporate sponsors are the only way to keep these huge contest powwows going. How is their support any different than a "Tribal Casino " ? Offer up a big pile of cash and somebody's gonna take it !
I believe blood quantums are the governments way to breed us out of existance !

They say blood is thicker than water ! Now maple syrup is thicker than blood , so are pancakes more important than family ?

There are "Elders" and there are "Olders". Being the second one doesn't make the first one true !

Somebody is out there somewhere, thinking of you and the impact you made in their life.
      It's not me....I think you're an idiot !

No, it shouldn't. I don't understand why so many individuals (non natives) believe in mass consumption of marijuana, In my opinion it is harmful to consume. Cultivated Hippie need of weed.

My dad used to run the National Finals Rodeo Powwow. When he was told that Coors was going to be a sponsor, he objected because he firmly believed "alcohol has no place at powwows."

For his strong belief, he was let go and another Native took his place who apparently didn't have a problem with it.

I used to save my contest numbers and they always have the sponsor's name. I had several that COORS sponsored ! LOL With that said , how long do you think it will take the masses that believe "pot bad for ndns" to do the same as the "alcohol bad for ndns" and make it taboo to take their money ?

The stereotypes still exist though. Many years ago at a little spot in Central Missouri a small powwow was put on. One way in and one way out. The local sheriffs department just happened to set up a DUI checkpoint right down the road just as the powwow was closing up.....just a coincidence I'm sure !

I'm not quite sure this will happen because many voters smoke for recreational use and/or medicinal use.

However, state laws may also change to mirror Colorado's tolerance laws and Natives may get to have legal rights to grow and consume with the same sovereignty precedent as casino gambling.

Once it is legal for everyone, public perceptions shifts as well.

There will be no pot powwow if Napoleon Sessions has his way.

My Tribe is going to be growing this in the future. There was a vote and it passed.

As for pot powwow sponsors, eh, the booze labels do it, and we all know prohibition doesn't work, so might as well let the pot and booze sponsor powwows. All you have to do is decide if you want to go and dance there or not.

Just don't go out and dance all drunk or high is all I ask of those at the powwow.

I don't care if the booze labels or pot growers sponsors a powwow.

The only time I ever saw the Gathering called the pot wow wow was in that article. Maybe the author of the article smoked some weed and got the idea to hang that nickname on the Gathering of Nations Pow Wow. I doubt the nickname he imagined is going to stick.

I can't work up much of a feeling about it one way or the other, myself.
