• 2014 Denver March Diet

Welcome to the latest edition of the Denver March Diet. I just realized I never get serious about dieting until I find out the dates for Denver March Powwow, so next year I need to look that up on the calendar FAR in advance. :D

So in the next 4 weeks, I will try to cut out all sugar (after reading this Prevention Mag article:
Weird Effects Sugar's Having On Your Body - Prevention.com

Exercise 3 times a week

Drink 8 cups of water a day

Eat more veggies

Get over this cold that I just got, i.e.. take my vitamins, get rest, de-stress

And hopefully lose some pounds and be in shape to tackle all the stairs, long walk from the parking lot, maybe shake a leg, etc...

Anyone care to join me?
...it is what it is...

ALRIGHT! Like I said, I'm sick with this dang cold, so right now I'm trying to stay hydrated and take my vitamins. Luckily food doesn't even seem interesting, which is weird cuz usually I'm a chowhound.

Exercising is out, but still trying to avoid carbs like the plague. I switched my sweetener of choice to Truvia from Splenda, since now they're saying Splenda is bad. Truvia is an all natural mixture of stevia and erithrytol. And I like tea and coffee SWEET!

I'm undecided if I should give up coffee while I'm trying to lose weight. Right now tea is better for my cold. Does coffee really dehydrate a person?

I'm also trying to weigh in at the same time everyday. So far, so good.

Been in healthcare for a while, You can have all the carbs you want if you only eat fruit carbs. Yes coffee dehydrates you, decaf wont. The lack of a stimulant may not help you lose weight though.

Lets DO this thing

Thanks! A good reason to keep my afternoon coffee!!

I do eat the occasion berry or melon. But other than that no carbs over 5 g a serving for me!

Yes, let's do this!! I do have to admit that I'm down 5 pounds from a little over a week ago, but I'm sure it's just water weight.

My cold seems a little better today...maybe I can work in a little exercise. Another Prevention Mag article said that 3 - 10 minute bouts of exercise are better for your heart than 30 min....hmmmm.

I just wanted to speak on the prevention topic. It's all bout context. What I mean is, it's depends on the individual and their own situation what is best for heart health. I know for me, I need to do 45 minutes, one minute at a time as hard as I can, while never stopping for 45, and then build up to a song length, if I'm going to have any chance of being ready for the grass dance.

a Cardiac stress test, Lipid levels (fats), chronic hypertension (long suffering high blood pressure), smoking, diuretic and stimulant intake e.g. alcohol, coffee....

These are all factors to take into consideration before planning your workout routine.

I totally agree, a lot of people do not take anything of that into account...Some people can do more Harm than Good, as they Grab a pair of Shoes/Track Bottoms, running shoes etc,and they either Hit the Gym or Keep Fit Classes, or Start Running and make themselves unwell or "So Sore and Stiff" they can hardly move...

So start of gently, and build up your fitness and strength, if you have any medical conditions take that into account Both with Dieting, and Exercise, speak to your Doctor or Health Official etc. Gym's and Fitness Classes can be expensive and Embarrassing for some, who especially,Lack confidence or have low esteme..So as I mentioned before, walking, jogging, dancing around your home etc..cost nothing and can be done slowly and gradually.. and also be fun lol..

My Daughter has neen dieting, and has lost just over 1Stone in 8 Months, which I am really proud of her as it has been hard for her to do...She swears by "Super Foods"...These are foods that can be filling, and healthy, you can eat Unlimited Amounts off and they Kick Start A Faster Metabolism, therefore easier to burn off calories..

Here are Some of those..

All berries..Strawberries, Blueberries, raspberries, etc etc etc

All Root Veg...ie Suede, Carrots, Parsnips, etc (Not Potatoes).

All types of Beans, and Split Lentils/Lentils, Split Peas, Barley, etc..

Also Grill or Bake in Oven a lot of things you would normally Fry..such as,Sausages, Bacon etc Or Buy a Really Good Non-Stick Frying Pan where you do not have to put Oil/Lard in etc.

I hope this helps or gives you some ideas, as it really did help my Daughter :)

How much is a stone? And I don't know what Suede is either??!!

My daughter lost over 60 pounds since July. She's been doing Crossfit and although they wanted her to "eat clean" their way...whole grains and low fat. I told her to eat low carb...which is why she has lost so much.

We had chili with the only low carb beans - black soy beans - and "I can't believe it's not cornbread" made with almond flour. YUMMERS!!

I fell off the wagon temporarily at a bball tourney...eating popcorn each day and diet soda. But I'm back on track and going to take snacks with me to this weeks tourney's so I'm not tempted.

Lol...Sorry wyo_rose I still use Llb's and Stone's for weight etc...A stone is 14Llb's so Wow your daughter has lost a lot of weight, thats just over 4stone, she must be very proud of herself and you must be too...My daughter lost 1 Stone = 14 Llb's in 8 months lol..But she normally never ends up loosing any normally as come the Weekends ..so comes the Take Out Food and A few glasses of wine lol...so that is why I was proud of her as she is cutting out the Take Out food more ie Pizza's, Chinese Takeaways, Kebab's etc, and because she is only just 5ft tall her weight shows more bless her, its been slow progress but still progress as,she has not given up and she has lost weight and not gained, and she is eating healthier:)

As for Suede....When I was a little girl my Grandfathee and Fathee would go hunting ie (food and fur/leather) only Not for sport...They would after sorting out the meats ect/Then Skin it ect..then use the Fur/Hide's etc for Clothing etc....They would use the "Leather With The Flesh Side Turned Outward And Rubbed Up" Making A Velvety Nap...So basically Suede is Very Soft Leather With A Velvety Surface...My Mammy would then make Me and My Sisters Dresses, Skirts etc..But I use to make her make me Leggings and a Tunic Top, she made me little boots too as I Hated Dresses hahahahaha....So even now as an Adult I love the soft feel of it against my skin, ie Dresses lol yep I wear them now lol...skirts, and off course I still wear Suede Leggings when I Run through the Countryside woods and forests...I may live in London England, But you Cannot Take The Wild Irish Little Mountain Girl out of Me, hahahahahaha.

I meant Suede in this context...root veg. I do know what suede leather is, and I have heard of people eating leather in a pinch.

Thanks for the info about the "stone". We use pounds still too here, in the states.

Yep, my daughter lost a ton and is scared that she might gain it back. But she's doing great on Crossfit and there's probably little chance of that.

I have about 4 score to lose...or is it 4 stone?
