"It makes me wonder, why do Japanese people turn to copying, when they have their own rich culture to draw from? When culture is copied, does it then take on a separate meaning? Where can you draw the line to define when cultural clip-art becomes stealing?"

Hmmmm...I think she's on to something! LOL

"Music, clothing, and dance steps are universal and can be appropriated on many different levels without being offensive, but an afro is something cultural and culture is something that can't be taken out of context and copied without adverse affects."

    Totally feel her here!

"Because of this, she wears an Afro. She says it's her way of respecting Black culture."

How many times have we heard this?

"This is my culture, it's real to me, while somebody else is just doing it because it like looks pretty cool or is interesting to them, but without having any of the knowledge that goes along with it. You can't truly appreciate something without knowing something about it. It's culture; it's not like a jacket or something. You can't just try it on to see if it fits then if it don't you just throw it back on the rack or something. This is culture. It means something to me. It's real. It's a part of me."

Couldn't put it any other way!

WOW! What an interesting article! It's refreshing to see someone of another race who is "going" through what we go through and how they feel about it.
He's the type of rez I like

No it's not.. but then neither are native american hobbyists... It's just that with all the folks that ask if there are other cultures this happens too... not many folks have heard of Japanese "african american" hobbyists.

These guys are'nt just donning afros... the friend that sent me this was told by her japense friend that they are painting their faces black too...

I wanted to write and ask everyone's opinion on how they feel toward a certian issue. I live in Oklahoma and it seems everywhere there is a sign, there is a sign below or next to it that is in Spainish. Don't get me wrong I'm not a prejudice person, but that makes me angry. This is why...Our people...

Ok I can’t afford any gym memberships or any of the nifty new-fangled body equipment that is advertised on TV. I can barely afford a decent pair of running/ walking shoes.

It’s hard to find time to get outdoors. Not that my immediate outdoors are worth it. I live in the city and...

                        Blessing the Arena
                        by pgowder
Here is another thing I think gets corrupted here in the Southeast.

Do all Pow Wows bless the arena? If so how do you do it?

At our Pow Wow last year the head man blessed by simply having a prayer. We then had vendors complain because they didn't see any tobacco or sage...
