  • Lite Foot...real ndn or not??

I was wondering what other opinions were out there about Lite Foot the Native American Actor/ Rap Artist / Motivational Speaker.
I've met him a couple times and he really didn't seem like too bad of a guy. He definately didn't know how to joke around using ndn humor.
I guess what gets me is that he is claiming to be Native American but doesn't seem to have any proof of being enrolled or affiliated with any tribe. He has told some people he's Cherokee and others that he's Salish, and even used other tribes. To me he looks Asian or like from island tribal decent.
I heard some of his music and he's talking about being ndn but not really getting to the point. To me he don't know what it's like to grow up on the rez, making commods taste good, poverty, pow-wows, etc.
Does he do anything for the Native people aside from charging an outrageous amount just to have him come and speak and do a Rap show for our children? Nothing that I have seen.

If he is not Native at all. Then it is possible that he's just using his clout as playing a ndn and somewhat looking ndn to his advantage and making bucks off of us and everyone else?
I've also noticed that when he sets up at pow-wows there are hardly ever any Natives buying his clothing or talking with him except for maybe a couple of star struck kids and tourists.
Should we really be supporting a person like this?
Is this another case of a wannabe ndn trying his hardest to be ndn??
    Just wondering.....
I suppose I'll run into some supporters of Lite Foot on here and that all good.
Like I said in the beginning. I was just looking at what other peoples opinions are on Lite Foot.....
    ohhhh ennniiit??

You shouldn't be so hard on yourself Litefoot.

    aye!

I guess he's "aiight". I've never listend to his music....mostly because I can't stand rap or the whole genre that could be labeled as rap.

Native Peoples mag did a story on him, I think last year. Something about him growing up in San Diego or Cali somewhere, and how he's part Mexican or something and Cherokee.

I can't say for certain if the guy is skindian or not, but...he's certainly alot darker than the wannabe's I've had run in's with who've claimed to be indian!!

I think the article said his name is David something or other, which I thought was kinda funny.....early on, when he first appeared on the scene....I remember everyone was tryin to guess what his name was and he wouldn't tell no one.

He's in it for the money......like all the other rappers out there.

I can't say if he's ndn or not - he looks it to me.

But he seemed like a real jerk when he lived around here. He was hating on my girls for no good reason, and was knocking his woman around some too.
      ...it is what it is...

I married into a family that knew him when he was young and selling his rap cassettes at powwows and dated one of the family members. yeah he's cherokee from what I understand, but I got the impression he did'nt spend his whole life living in Oklahoma either.
Don't worry that it's not good enough for anyone else to hear... just sing, sing a song.sigpic

i met Litefoot about two or three years ago. he is a good guy. I am not into rap myself. i know of him from seeing him here or there or in films he did. i heard him perform at Schemitzun a few years ago. he was good. i saw the same article in Native People's or some magazine. i think it said he was Cherokee from Oklahoma.

very interesting...we hired him a few years back for our tribal fall festival (right after ndn in the cupboard came out) it was kinda costly, but he was a really nice guy. I saw him again last year at Schemitzun and he remembered me & was very considerate in saying 'hi'. Isn't it his new wife that travels w/him. His real name is: ...........

                    He is Cherokee...

Yup, he is Cherokee. I met him years ago before Indian in the Cupbard. I met one of his parents, i think it was his dad, who was cherokee. (the real deal cherokee)

I'm not into rap that much either, but for many years I would see him here and there and he would always say,'Hi" and ask about my family. I have 2 sisters and we all look alike, so I think he always wondered which one I was. hee hee.

Yeah, in his younger days he had black backup dancers, but isn't that what rap is about??? I thought it was weird too.

So he is a wife beater?! That is sad, didn't know that.
