these people's livelihood will die out entirely if they're not careful... I'm sure it sucks in the meantime, but it really is necessary. and it's not like they won't charge astronomical prices for all kinds of wild salmon now, to make up for it. I do believe the commercial fisherman will make their money back and then some, especially since now farmed salmon turns out to have so many contaminants/hormones/bad fats. They'll just dangle the yummy wild stuff in front of our noses and charge $25 a pound instead of $18.

This is an issue every year up here on the Yukon River. Native and rural subsistance should always come before commercial fishing, PERIOD.

...i memeber when i was a Beg'ling and my dad fished and we actually ATE it..lol..i also remeber them being bigger than i was and he has the pics to prove it...thanx 4 posting:o)

i saw that on the news today...ok.. natives have a right to fish right... the fish stocks are low...everywhere... cuz of commercial fishing..even in the atlantic... whos fault is that? then the white guys are whining..aw we lost our lively hood...etc... hello? how does it feel to be 'native' if your so smart smarter than us natives then find another occupation...we had to adjust...and i agree with begs... up to a point.. if sincere people are out their getting food for the elders ok..but not when theyre selling it for profit...

This is a knock down fist fighting kinda topic where im from...my rez...even in my family...I have mixed feelings....Basically I think that if the fish numbers are low...we shouldnt be fishing...period.
